My name is Dina Darwisyah, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). My journey into this field stems from a deep desire to strengthen my understanding of Islam and my connection with Allah ﷻ and His Prophet ﷺ.

Having spent 12 enriching years in an Islamic school, I developed a profound love for knowledge, particularly in Islamic literature. Inspired by the attribute of Allah ﷻ, Al-Wadud, which means the Most Loving, this journey reflects my aim to cultivate love and compassion in my life. I believe that our path towards Allah ﷻ is one of spiritual growth, guided by kindness and understanding.

A quote that deeply resonates with me is,

"إنّ الصَّلاَتِي ونُسُكِي وَمَحْيَايَ وَمَمَاتِي لله رَبِّ العَالمَِين"

This powerful reminder underscores that my life and worship are devoted to Allah ﷻ, keeping me focused on my purpose.

But I take it a step further by acknowledging His sufficiency (حَسْبِيَ الله) in every aspect of my life. Knowing that He is Allah ﷻ , the One Who listens to those who call upon Him (سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَن دَعَى), fills me with hope and trust. I am reminded that, with Him, I am sufficient, and He is all that I need.

My background quote,

حَسْبِيَ اللهُ وَكَفَى سَمِعَ الله لِمَن دَعَى

(I place my trust in Allah and He is sufficient, Allah ﷻ listens to he who calls unto Him), encapsulates my heart's desire for dependence on Allah ﷻ alone. In Him, I find solace, strength, and guidance.

Today was a profound day in our class with Professor Salam, where we explored Allah’s attributes from Al-Buti’s The Greatest Universal Sureties. This exploration ignited a deeper awareness within me of Allah’s perfection and majesty, reminding me how fundamentally He shapes our existence.

We categorized Allah's attributes—Personal, Negation, Affirmation, and Affirmed Meaning—each category offering a deeper understanding and perspective towards the Almighty, especially the attributes of Affirmation, highlighting qualities like Knowledge, Will, and Power, which are ever-present in our lives.

Listening to "The Call," I felt a profound yearning to return to Allah. The song evokes a deep longing for His mercy and guidance, aligning perfectly with the powerful supplication,

"يَا مُقَلِّبَ القُلُوب ثَبِّت قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ"

(O Turner of the hearts, make my heart steadfast in Your religion).

This journey of understanding Allah's attributes is more than intellectual; it's a spiritual path calling us to respond with humility and devotion. Today’s reflections inspire me to seek His love and guidance, reminding me that faith is a continuous journey of patience and perseverance.

Before diving into my reflections, I want to take a moment to explore the profound distinction between a student and a seeker of knowledge in Islam. A student often approaches learning with specific goals and a defined curriculum, while a seeker of knowledge embraces a lifelong journey, driven by curiosity and a sincere desire to grow. This is not merely about acquiring information but about transforming oneself and deepening one's understanding of faith and the world around us. Prof. Suzana emphasized that seeking knowledge is a lifelong experience, a commitment to continuous growth that enriches both the mind and the spirit.

As I reflect on my journey, I am filled with gratitude for the incredible experiences I've shared with my team. This process has taught me profound lessons about the essence of adab (good manners) and the beauty of seeking knowledge together.

The Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “Nothing is heavier on the Scale of Deeds than one’s good manners.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari). This wisdom has resonated deeply with me, reminding me that good manners shape our interactions and deepen our connections. Under the guidance of Prof. Suzana, my team members and I embraced kindness and respect in every exchange.

Each discussion became a fertile ground for growth. We shared diverse perspectives, learning not only from one another but also drawing inspiration from the other groups who presented. Their insights enriched my understanding and encouraged me to reflect deeply on our own work. The Prophet's words, "طَلَبُ العِلْمِ فَرِيْضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ وَّ مُسْلِمَةٍ" (Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim male and female), reminded me of the importance of lifelong learning and the pursuit of knowledge as a fundamental aspect of our faith.

I hope everyone is having a blessed day in the month of Rajaab ! Let me start off today's post by asking, do you know the difference between a student and a seeker of knowledge ?

Today, I reflect on the profound teachings of Islam and how they contrast with the ideas of New Atheism. As I delve into the Quran, I'm reminded of its universality, urging us to promote peace and justice among all people, regardless of their background or creed. This resonates deeply within me as I strive to embody the values of compassion, kindness, and generosity.

I've come to understand that Islam isn't a source of division; it's a beacon of unity. As Surah Al-Mumtahanah reminds us, our duty is to treat others with equity and justice, fostering harmony and mutual respect. The Quran's teachings on morality and ethics serve as a guide, encouraging us to embody good character, be generous, and kind to all humanity.

I also appreciate how Islam views science and faith as complementary rather than opposing forces. The Quran's emphasis on intellectual exploration and reflection (Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1-5) resonates deeply within me, as it underscores the importance of knowledge and understanding. I've come to see that there's no contradiction between faith and reason; instead, they enrich each other.

In contrast, I've noticed that New Atheism often overlooks the positive roles of religion in society. It focuses on criticism, neglecting the many ways in which faith can cultivate community, identity, and individual well-being. This is where Islam shines, with its emphasis on the importance of community and shared values.

As I reflect on these teachings, I'm reminded of the Quran's profound statement in Surah Ar-Rahman (13), which invites us to acknowledge the many blessings and favors of Allah in our lives. This encourages me to cultivate a deeper sense of gratitude and spiritual awareness.

In light of these insights, I've come to see Islam as a beautiful, inclusive, and compassionate framework for living. It offers guidance for personal growth, ethics, and morality, while fostering communities built on shared values. With the Quran's guidance, I feel more confident in promoting peace, justice, and harmony in all aspects of life.

To conclude, I'm reminded of the Hadith from Sahih Bukhari: "The best of people are those that bring the most benefit to the rest of mankind."

Today, I immersed myself in the profound concepts of Qada’ (divine decree) and Qadar (predestination) in Islam. These tenets form an essential part of our faith, illustrating the delicate balance between Allah’s ultimate will and human agency. It amazes me how these principles are not meant to strip us of our responsibility, but rather to affirm it. While Allah (SWT) has foreknowledge of all without exception, we are still endowed with the free will to navigate our paths within the framework of His wisdom.

Understanding this balance has made me appreciate the depth of our belief. The Quran and Sunnah articulate that divine knowledge is not dictatorial; it is an expression of Allah’s perfect governance and understanding of the universe. I find solace in the idea that while we may face trials and tribulations, our souls remain the architects of our choices, thereby holding us accountable for our actions.

As I delve deeper into this topic, I can't help but notice how it often raises questions among non-Muslims. They frequently grapple with reconciling the concepts of predestination and personal freedom, which can lead to misconceptions. This inspires me to engage in discussions that illuminate our understanding of these principles, offering a clearer view that dispels the notions of fatalism or coercion.

I explored perspectives from various belief systems, witnessing how different worldviews interpret fate and free will. From atheists who attribute moral responsibility solely to natural and social influences, to deists who acknowledge a Creator devoid of intervention, and Buddhists who embrace karma with an emphasis on human choice—each perspective sheds light on how culture and upbringing shape our views on predestination.

I was particularly moved by an interview recently conducted by my group mate on a deist and a Buddhist. The deist articulated that while a Creator set the universe in motion, human agency remains unchecked by divine interference. The Buddhist perspective, integrating karma with human agency, resonated with me—a beautiful reminder that while we may lay the groundwork for our lives, our actions shape our fates.

Perhaps what shines most profoundly through these discussions is the universal value placed on moral accountability. Regardless of differing metaphysical beliefs about divine interference, there’s an underlying consensus on the importance of how we act. This shared value can serve as a bridge in interfaith dialogues, promoting a more profound understanding of our beliefs.

In my reflections, I am reminded that belief in Qada’ and Qadar invites trust in Allah’s plan while simultaneously urging us to act with intention and accountability in our lives. The intricate balance encourages me to stay devoted while embracing the free will granted to me by Allah (SWT).

As I conclude today's musings, I feel a renewed commitment to embody these teachings and engage others with patience, love and understanding. It’s essential to clarify these concepts, transforming complexity into relatable wisdom, ensuring that the rich tapestry of Islamic theology inspires a broader appreciation for our shared moral foundation.
