There are many ways in which we define the term culture. The most common definition is one that defines culture as the collection of believes, practices, morals and values, experiences, knowledge and attitudes that are shared am ounce a group of people. Culture is not a static construct but a dynamic one. It can be affected and affect external entities.

The Caribbean has been identified as a multi cultural region. The common ground on which Caribbean culture is bases is a direct result of its shared history experiences. Feature of  Caribbean culture is based upon its literature, arts, music, cuisine, social aspects and its political structures which have been influenced by all the groups that migrated to the region over the years.

In this portfolio my area of focus will be upon the musical and artistic attributes of the Caribbean in term of there original representation and that which it represents today. To accomplish this I will be looking at the festival of carnival in Trinidad and Tobago and the music associated with it as well as reggae and dancehall music of Jamaica.
