Stage 1: Trust vs. Mistrust

This stage happens in the first year and a half of life and determines if a child will trust people or not based on whether they were responded to and cared for. According to the book, "the critical element in developing trust is sensitive, responsive, consistent caregiving" (pg. 150). Therefore, I resolved with trust because I was nurtured.

Stage 2: Autonomy vs. Shame and Doubt

This stage happens from one and a half to three years old and determines if a child will have good self-control or if they will be shameful and doubtful based on their abilities. According to the book, "as children are better to make their wishes understood, they become more powerful and independent" (pg. 156). I resolved with autonomy because I was potty trained thus learning how to control my body.

Stage 3: Initiative vs. Guilt

This stage happens in preschool ages and determines if a child will be confident in their abilities and able to lead or if they will feel guilty for not being able to do certain things correctly. According to the book, "preschool children can do-and want to do-more and more. At the same time, they are learning that some of the things they want to do meet social approval, where as others do not" (pg. 210). I resolved with initiative because I was able to do tasks around the house the correct way and without being asked.

Stage 4: Industry vs. Inferiority

This stage happens from ages five to twelve and determines if a child feels as though they can do things and be productive or they will not feel good about themselves. The book states, "If children are unable to obtain the praise of others or lack motivation and self-esteem, they may develop a feeling of low self-worth and thus develop a sense of inferiority" (pg. 275). I resolved with industry because I was confident in my ability to get things done.

Stage 5: Identity vs. Identity confusion

This stage happens in teenage years and determines how they see themselves and how they identify themselves in society. The book states, "Adolescents who resolve the identity crisis satisfactorily develop the virtue of fidelity; sustained loyalty, faith, or a sense of belonging to a loved one or to friends and companions" (pg. 336). I resolved with identity based on my faith.

Stage 6: Intimacy vs. Isolation

This stage happens in early adulthood and determines their relationships and if they are able to have happy, healthy, and committed relationships. I resolved with intimacy because I have had a boyfriend for a few months that started as a friendship.

Stage 7: Generatively vs. Stagnation

This stage happens in middle adulthood and determines if they want to have a impactful life or if they want to just cruise through the rest of their lives. I think I will resolve with generatively because I want to have children and live a happy life with them. I also want to become a teacher and I believe that will be impactful to many children.

Stage 8: Integrity vs. Despair

This stage happens in retirement age until death and determines if we are content with our lives or if we have regrets about certain things we did. I think I will resolve with integrity because I do not want to live my life with regrets and I think at the end I will feel accomplished.
