The loss of productivity and decline in fertility of land-based environments as a result of human activities.

1. Soil degradation
The loss of fertility of the soil due to chemical change, animals and machinery compaction, and increasing salinity.

2. Soil erosion
Soil is gradually worn away by natural phenomena such as rivers, rain, waves, glaciers, and the wind. Makes land more vulnerable to other forms of erosion.

3. Ecosystem decline
