A Broken Ball Point Pen and My Mother

At first glance, these don't seem to share traits. One is small, plastic and no longer functions, while the other is fleshy, human, and sort of alive. However, on a deeper level, the two are profoundly similar.

Exhibit A) The ball point pen, broken as it is, is next to useless and mostly takes up space by still existing. In many ways, this could be a description of my mother--especially after the divorce.

Exhibit B) The ball point pen is unable to change. Unless it is completely snapped in half by an external force and turned into a straw, it will always only be a ball point pen. Similarly, my mother is unable to change anything about herself. She simply dates the same awful men, then spend the rest of the time on the couch, watching Eastenders, and eating biscuits. The only way she will change is through a dramatic external event--though sometimes I imagine her watching a volcano erupt and her simply sitting down and waiting for the lava low to engulf her body.

That said, there are of course some fundamental differences between the two, and it's important not to overlook them.

Number 1) They have very different origin stories. Firstly, the broken ball point pen was industrially manufactured, produced on an assembly line along with many thousands of other pens, before being boxed and shipped to a warehouse, moved from the warehouse to a stationary store, and then from the store to a school where it was dished out to a student. It was here, when the student tried to use it as a chisel i to make a hole in their classroom wall, that it subsequently broke. My mother's origin was much messier, both emotionally and physically, and involved shattered promises, the transfer of fluids, and a disgusting human birth.

Number 2) And this one is obvious, but should nonetheless not be disregarded. A broken ball point pen makes no sound at all. It just lies there silently. And while it's true that it can be used as a drum stick to make noises when tapped against something else--like a chair or a glass or my mother's skull--that noise requires an external agent to produce it and so is not technically the product of the broken pen itself. Conversely, my mother makes lots of noise. She flaps her meat together and squeezes air out of her various holes and generates her own self-motivated cacophony. Sometimes she cries. Sometimes she shouts nonsensically at the TV. Sometimes she just lies there and farts. But the point is, she makes all these sounds herself--you don't have to bang her against anything.

Heroes chocolates & Winter

At first sight, one may think its hard to compare these random objects. However, as more ideas come to mind, i gathered each objects qualities and similarities. As soon as winter starts we all know to be prepared for a cold, 10 layers of shirts, dark early nights and if your lucky you might even get some snow (but that is rare in London as the weather is constantly changing). Heroes chocolate is a brand that many people love, including myself. It has a variety of chocolates to choose from which makes it easier knowing that when you put your hand in the box you are at least going to like one of them

The multiple selection in heroes means that you never know which one you could get, this also links to a winter season in London. Each winter you never know what to expect. You could get snow, rain or wind but just know that no matter the variation be prepared to expect one.
Another similarity these two object share is that its only right to have it at the end of the year. You see, heroes are a festive chocolate box which only comes
out in stores towards the end of year.It doesn't make sense or feel right if you eat them anytime before winter. Some may consider that eating them before is basically the equivalent to committing a crime. Just know that if you see these chocolates in store, winter is getting started and the year is coming to an end. But wait, what also is towards the end of the year? Winter!

When heroes chocolate comes to mind several feelings become apparent . It is something that is tasty, enjoyable to eat , whilst also making you feel good.It almost feels like something was missing from your life before you ate on of these. On the other hand, winter is the complete opposite. When the winter season arrives, the publics mood automatically changes from somewhat happy to totally moody and very easily irritated all day every day. Take this for example, if you're on the train or the bus and you bump into someone by accident the person you hit wont even say anything. The terrifying and evil eye contact you make with them for about 10 seconds just says it all.

The main differences (and similarities) between an ampersand and a yellow ping pong ball

These two things are seemingly completely unrelated. A ping pong ball - let alone a yellow one - is simply a spherical piece of plastic hit between two bats, while an ampersand could be seen as little more than a random combination of twists and turns with a pen onto a key on a keyboard. A yellow ping pong ball is used primarily as a piece of equipment in a sport, and were it to be dented it could be fixed by being placed in a pan of hot water. Neither of these could be said for our ampersand. However, put under the microscope, these two concepts can be forced into being seen as similar. For example - a (yellow) ping pong ball ties together a game of table tennis. You could have a person at each end standing with a bat but you couldn't effectively play the game without this ping pong ball (the specification of it being yellow really would eliminate any similarities - like as far as I know you could still play ping pong with a blue ping pong ball, right? Maybe you couldn't, I'm not a ping pong connoisseur.). Where a ping pong ball ties together a game, an ampersand will tie together a sentence. You could try and write a sentence without an 'and', but it just wouldn't work. Another similarity between the two links well with the previous similarity - in that while a ping pong ball is vital to a game of ping pong, outside of a game it becomes useless - after all, it is a totally inanimate object. On the 363 days a year that you don't play ping pong, it is lying on a desk on in a cupboard, gathering dust. And similarly, the ampersand is totally useless on it's own - it needs a title to work with. And on the 363 days a year that I am not using the ampersand, it is simply lying on my computer keyboard gathering dust.

You maybe perplexed on why I choose these two pet. Your not the only one!!At first glance, these don't seem to share the same traits. First of all, they are both pets & craves food just like you.
Exhibit 1) Ones in your house at the edge of your bed staring at you in desires for love (if that's so hard).Dogs are not only fluffy pets but a help in hand and mostly a comforting figure.
Exhibit 2) Seems clueless leaping around at a lake. Not much individuals will what a frog as a pet. Why? They seem to be in there own world and harmless. The only thing you would have to do is feed it and to show some sort of care. If these two pets were humans the dog would be hyperactive, annoying and a type to seek attention in the other hand frogs will be anti social, most likely to be secretive and independent .

These two things might seem far from similar at first, for example, one is a living fleshy animal that rips all of your furniture to shreds and the other, an object that you paid £1000 for, it was once useful, but now has a shattered screen and electrocutes you whenever you try and charge it. however, these two things share many similarities, which I will now point out

There are some good dogs and some well.. troubled dogs. For example mine, a tiny monstrous dog that growls at me whenever I go near it, this is very similar to a broken cell phone, no matter how well you look after it, how much money you pay for it and how many times you take it into the dodgy phone repair shop, it will always end up broken somehow, very similar to my dog, I mean I give him the best quality food, buy him the best toys yet he's still just..well, a bit broken.

They are also very similar in the way that we have to care for them, we have to feed dogs and we have to feed phones with charge, however, there is one difference between the two, if you drop the dog it might feel a bit sore, but it will end up just getting on with its life, however, a cell phone is very different, you drop it on the floor, and your life flashes before you, the screen is shattered it is flashing red and white, all of your hard-earned savings leading up to this. But you will always end up buying another one and then dropping it again, and the cycle repeats.

Apple juice and love

To the naked eye, apple juice and love have no immediate connections. But if you look in more depth, the two have more similarities than one would think.
Love is usually seen as a complex thing that is unique between people, but if we strip it down to it's core we get something that is seemingly similar to apple juice.

The description bitter or sweet or even bitter-sweet could easily be a description of either love or apple juice , with the added fact that they could both start out really good but end really badly- nothing hurts more than realizing the apple juice doesn't hit as hard as you think it would. Another similarity between the two is that they are both finite. Love doesn't last forever and neither does apple juice, unless one spends their whole life drinking processed cartoon juice which would supposedly lead them to an early death anyways so I guess it is possible. Love doesn't always run smoothly and you could (yet again) say the same for apple juice, but if you conscientiously choose apple juice with bits in then maybe you should think twice before getting into a relationship. The final and not so obvious similarity between the two is that they are both discarded at the end , (this sort of ties into them both being finite) at the end of a relationship people can just go back to being strangers which is almost the same concept of throwing an empty carton of apple juice in the bin, one could say that when the carton of love is empty the carton is thrown away.

Enough with the odd amount of similarities love and apple juice have , lets have a look at the countless amount of differences the two have. There is the obvious point that one is a liquid that can be consumed and the other is a feeling or quality or even a status, which split the two into two completely different categories. Another obvious difference between the two is that one is manufactured or made by squeezing apples and the other is a mutual or unrequited feeling between people , the two ultimately have nothing to do with eachother but lets ignore that for now. The final point i'm going to make on the differences between apple juice and love is the fact that apple juice an be bought and love cannot, (id say that this is a debatable point because sometimes love can be bought but lets use this point for the sake of having a final point) love is (once again) a feeling rather than an object that is not bought and has to be felt.
So in conclusion the main difference between apple juice and love is that love is a feeling and apple juice is not, however i'd say that i'm feeling pretty apple juice right now (please forgive me for the awful joke ).

Your first thoughts are, what similarities could these two have. Well let me tell you everything is common to each other in one way or another. The twin turbine engine is an object which you can hold, and on the other hand, the solar system isn't something you can hold. Also, the solar system is an actual place where you can visit with the right equipment but, a twin turbine engine isn't a place you can go. these two have something in common, they were both discovered by a person/or a group of people. You can also visit the solar system with a rocket ship, that may have a twin turbine engine inside. They are also two very hard things to learn about. This shows how two very random things can have differences and similarities.

Sleep is a process you go through to recharge you body for the day ahead or from the day just passed and death is shutting down your body so no more days can come. but death sneaks up on us as does tiredness yet you can still get a sudden fealing of when it might occur as someone might say, "im getting tired" or they might feel the need to spend more time around people they love doing things they enjoy. many people also say sleep is the cousin of death because in both instances your not aware of your surrounding and your seperated from consciousness.
