Studies from over 100 different cities in china showed that a higher air quality index linked to a higher mortality rate in cities. Cities with lower air quality indexes also had lower mortality rates. These facts are directly connecting pollution to a shorter life span, along with other diseases including asthma and cardiovascular disease. Another factor that effects the air quality is the temperature. The highest air quality would be in the summer and the lowest air quality in the winter. Geographically, the highest air quality is in the northern cities of China while the southern cities have the lowest. Heat index, precipitation, and sunshine were other factors that negatively effected air quality.

Ozone pollution near Earth's surface is nearly impossible to measure due to all the ozone above it, but recently NASA has created a way to use satellite measurements to track precursor gases that make up the three conditions of the ozone layer. This is important because it may be able to help air quality managers implement emission reduction programs that could help improve air quality. NASA is using the data to analyze the chemistry of the ozone from space. The ozone has been affected by VOC and NOx gases over the past decades. More recently, the NOx gases have been more prominent in the ozone. This means that emission reduction programs will focus more on NOx gases and this will decrease ozone production.

A geothermal heat source called a mantle plum has recently been discovered under Antarctica's ice sheet. This is a reasonable explanation for why there are rivers and lakes being formed under the ice sheet. The lakes and rivers are responsible for elevating the ice sheets as much as 20 feet. This is also the way that scientists measure how much water is under the ice sheet at a certain time. The flux energy under the mantle plume is 150 milliwatts per square meter, while Yellowstone park, which is known for having a geothermal hot spot, is 200 milliwatts per square meter. 11,000 years ago, heating of this ice sheet caused rapid ice loss, just as it is today.

To slow climate change, policies worldwide have been put into effect to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reducing deforestation. The deforestation is caused mostly by large scale agriculture and extraction services in countries with rain forests. Conserving these forests would mean retaining more carbon, which is a justifiable reason for stopping deforestation. Some groups have tried to say that the reduction of carbon promotes biodiversity, but the experiments have been inconclusive with that statement,

Recent studies have shown that swapping crop distribution is a significant way to promote food production needs and resource sustainability at the same time. Using crops with greater nutritional quality and lower environmental impact could lower the amount of water used for crops tremendously. Demand for food and water stress are predicted to climb significantly in the coming years, so researches have began to look for alternative crops to answer this issue. The group focused on 14 crops that if used correctly, could feed an extra 825 million people. For this to happen, the use of some of these crops would have to increase significantly, and we would have to stop consuming other crops that have less calories and use more water.

Evidence of early flowering and fruiting due to climate change have been seen all over the world. Scientists have been able to use an estimator that can measure phenological change of plants. This estimator can show how human's interactions are changing plants cycles. Climate change is drastically effecting more than just humans but all of the environment together, and it will continue to change cycles of plants and other things as well.
