Renaissance painters painted realistic things because they were influenced by the renewed interest in classical culture and the spread of humanism.

Here at the Piazza della Signoria and I have learned so much! Did you know Michelangelo's David was installed in the Piazza della Signoria? This is the plaza in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. It became a prized expression of Renaissance genius in Florence, and Michelangelo had an influence on other artists!

Casa di Dante

The Casa di Dante is the house on Dante's birthplace, with exhibits of his work & life! If you are not familiar with Dante Alighieri, he is Italy's most beloved and famous poet. His best-known work is called The Divine Comedy written in Italian in the early 1300's.

Did you know the local government of Florence was housed in the Old Palace, otherwise known as the Palazzo Vecchio? The Palazzo was built as the private residence of the Medici family in the 1440s until their full move to the Palazzo in 1540. Seeing it in real life made me realize that the Palazzo Vecchio was the most characteristic building on its square!
