Aggression is action that is intended to eliminate competition. This can be either physical or social aggression such as intimidation. This could be a wolf growling at another to protect his food, or a goose protecting its young.

Aggression is seen in many scenarios. It can come as a reaction to intimidation, either by a potential danger or a contender for a leader position in a group. This is common between wolves for example. This happens when the Alpha male fights with another member of the pack to ensure his dominance.

How did aggression come as an adaptation?

Aggression has become an adaptation as a defense mechanism against possible threats, resulting in better fitness. This could be like a mother bear being aggressive to other creatures that get close to her cubs. This helps to ensure the safety of the cubs and the survival of the population. In wolf packs, the aggressive alpha males get more food and ensure their own survival.

I think that social behavior as a whole is great as it offers organisms so many different tools to survive. Social interaction lets animals share food, protect each other, communicate danger, keep their species alive, to intimidate predators and enables hierarchies to form in nature and develop into complex groups.
