Among these theorist is Frank Parsons, who many believe is “the father of all occupational counseling” (Massingill, 2018). Parson’s theories influenced the work on many career counselors and developed practices that are still relevant today.
One of Parsons most well known theories is the "Trait Factor Theory." Parsons believed that people should be matched to a career they will find fulfilling. If a person were fortunate enough to find a career they enjoyed and they felt was rewarding, then they were also likely to be more productive. Therefore, searching for a job that fit the traits of an individual person would produce a higher level of job satisfaction and create a more productive employee (Careers NZ, 2016).
After Parsons’ death, his counseling notes were compiled into a book titled “Choosing a Vocation”  that contained revolution ideas for this time that shaped current career search practices (Massingill, 2018).
