The integumentary system is the set of organs that forms the external covering of the body and protects it from many threats such as infection, desiccation, abrasion, chemical assault and radiation damage. Basically it kinda acts like a blanket in a way. It consists of hair, nails, and skin

Yes you heard right! Skin has not one not two BUT THREE LAYERS! Here they are listed from top to bottom layers... The upper layer is the epidermis, the layer below the epidermis is the dermis, and the third and deepest layer is the subcutaneous tissue. Woah!

The Dermis (the second layer) and what it does

The dermis is the probably one of the most important layers of skin. Heres why... Compared to skin (epidermis), the dermis is a thick layer of fibrous and elastic tissue (made mostly of collagen, with a small but important component of elastin) that gives the skin its flexibility and strength. The dermis contains nerve endings, sweat glands and oil glands, hair follicles, and blood vessels. The nerve endings sense pain, touch, pressure, and temperature. If you dont understand... Basically the dermis holds our nerves (touch), our ability to sweat, our ability to regulate temperature, and even our blood. Think of this as the guards of a kingdom giving support to troops on the wall

The hypodermis (the third and last layer) and what it basically does...

Now you may have thought to yourself that the dermis is important... Yeah its important but without the hypodermis its nothing. The hypodermis stores fat, gives protection and attaching the upper skin layers (dermis and epidermis) to underlying tissues such as your bones and cartilage, and supporting the structures within this layer such as nerves and blood vessels. This is basically the castle that helps keep the kingdom alive
