This consumption makes people develop  a habit of being ignorant to real life events, wanting to forget them instead of striving for changes. Our society also follows this pattern. The popularize of entertainment and celebrity culture has become a cure for the stress of reality. The people in the World State use these pleasures to forget their pains, “Lenina felt herself entitled, after this day of queerness and horror, to a complete and absolute holiday. As soon as they got back to the rest-house, she swallowed six half-gramme tablets of soma, lay down on her bed, and within ten minutes had embarked for lunar eternity” (Huxley, 1932). These three words relate to The Central London Hatchery and Conditioning Centre, "Community, Identity, Stability" (Huxley, 1932) which creates and conditions human life. Community means that all persons must work together to maximize the greatest happiness for society as a whole, and it occurs through the artificially implanted ideas of Identity that each person has. Some are alphas, betas, gammas, etc., but each person is supposed to be happy with their own identity. Lastly, Stability is the ultimate goal of society because only through stability can happiness be maintained and all unpleasant feelings and emotions be eradicated. Social caste move to the most capable and beautiful people in society that causes some to feel as they are all part of an idea of economic and social system. - We are not conditioned at birth to fulfill a predetermined role in society, or consume goods.
- However, we are controlled by media and entertainment.
- Entertainment + celebrity culture is advertised widely.
- People consume these entertainment and temporarily forget what is going on in real life.
- This consumption makes people develop a habit of being ignorant to real life events, wanting to forget them, not striving for changes.
2. Are we giving up our liberty for happiness and security?
- Happiness and security cannot be regulated if people don't give up some freedom.
- US is a nation that values liberty the most.
- Although the US government has become more powerful today than in the past, the nation still has a large amount of liberty
- Many people would rather have a government that carries less power. This type of government allows the people more freedom, however cannot protect public happiness and security as much.
- When individual's opinions are encouraged, there ought to be conflicts and disagreements. The society of the US, hence, is socially unstable + chaotic.

However, the World State values happiness over freedom, "The world's stable now. People are happy; they get what they want, and never want what they can't get" (Huxley, 1932). Thus, even though the US government has grown in powers throughout history, the country is still vastly different from the World State. The World State government is shown to have absolute control of the people's thoughts in the quote "...all our science is just a cookery book, with an orthodox theory of cooking that nobody's allowed to question..." (Huxley, 1932). Most Americans would rather have the government carry less power than more. Hence, it can provide us less security and protection of general happiness, but the people have more free will. This free will encourages opinions and individuality. Where there are many opinions, there ought to be conflicts. The society of the United States, therefore, is socially unstable and chaotic. "Not just a cell in the social body" (Huxley, 1932) shows how much the World State despises individuality, because of the reason above, and how little the significance of a person is.
