 I can appreciate the No child left behind motto reinvented through MTSS and what the goal is with this class but I’m having a hard time understanding how this is all new. As teachers we do this on a daily without having to be told to do so. We try to look out for our students and may not catch everything and everyone and maybe that is where this MTSS comes in but I feel like it always falls on us. What about the students? What about the parent involvement? When do they start taking classes like these? Where is the support for the teachers?

Also, How did you all finish this in less than 6 hours? I have been working more than that and still haven’t finished. I would prefer a class to go to and learn from a teacher. I prefer interaction with people and not necessarily through these modules/hybrid class. I thought the video in Tier 3.02 was pointless and the poll everywhere was a waste of time. The whole child is so important and knowing how to meet their social, emotional, and academic needs in the setting that is best for them. One underlying idea through the modules was the support of many certified people including the counselor. This child is an entire school's student, not just the current teacher's. TRULY working collaboratively is ideal, but not practical with time, resources, and students needing tier 2 and 3. I especially loved the TED talk about the child who WILL behave if they know how. There needs to be a partnership with home and school though, expectations need to be consistent. You can also see it in progress in video clips and other media. However, what I really struggle with is that what you read about and see in education videos only happens in a perfect world scenario. I really want to see the challenges that the MTSS process poses in a real education setting. For example, I have 30 students, 4 IEP students, a good handful of serious behavior challenges, and 1/3 of my reading students are minimally proficient at the fourth grade level. I want to see how a teacher navigates that type of classroom successfully so that I can learn strategies to improve my own instruction and management of the MTSS process. After 20+ years of teaching, I want to see "real" classroom scenarios and not just read/see how perfect the program can work.
