A force is a push or a pull. Supposing you pushed a ball, if you push had enough force it would start rolling. This relates to Newton’s first law because until a push or a pull stops that ball it will keep on moving.

Newton's First Law of Motion describes how an object acts when still or in motion. They will remain in either state unless an external force changes it. This was demonstrated in the Hoop and Marker Activity. The marker was at rest until the force of gravity caused it to fall when the hoop was removed. It stayed in motion until it was stopped by the jar or the table.

The mass of an object is a measure of an object's inertia. The more an object resists the greater its mass. That is why it is harder to push a car than a bicycle, because the mass of a car is greater.

An object is in motion when it is moving relative to a reference point. For example a bike is moving against the scenery of the mountains. The mountains seemingly get further and further away as the bike moves forward. That means that the bike is in motion. In the table cloth magic activity the table cloth was in motion when pulled because relative to the ground it seemed to be moving.

An unbalanced force is when the net force of an object is more than 0 N. In the hoop and marker activity the marker had unbalanced forces on it which caused it to fall. Gravity was pushing on it but nothing was holding it up. Therefore it fell.

Inertia is a measure of mass. The more inertia and object has the more it will resist being moved. If the object is already in motion then it will resist changes in direction or speed. It will do this until it is acted upon by an outside force. In the "Tablecloth Magic Activity" the objects with less inertia, meaning they had a lesser mass, were affected by when the table cloth was pulled from under. The objects with more inertia did not move because they had more resistance. In Newton's First Law this demonstrated because that external force has to overpower the inertia of the object to make it move.
