In 1887 he graduated from the gymnasium with a gold medal and entered the Faculty of Law of the Imperial Kazan University. Fyodor Mikhailovich Kerensky was very disappointed with the choice of Volodya Ulyanov, as he advised him to enter the History and literature faculty of the university due to the great success of the younger Ulyanov in Latin and literature.
