Your teachers will do this with you after each test and exam, but we suggest rewriting your essays based on the feedback you’ve received, and make a document of your overall reflections and things to work on. You can meet your teachers and show them your rewritten work for any further feedback, they will be happy to help :)

In these subjects — whether continuing with a language you have been learning or learning an entirely new one — consistency is key! Whether it be reading short stories, listening to a podcast, or watching your favourite movie dubbed in the language, exposing yourself to the language regularly and as much as possible will be immensely helpful. Gaining familiarity with the language will help build your confidence, which is especially important in speaking where you have to express your thoughts with clarity. Focus on listening and speaking, as these are the skills that most find the hardest. In class, keeping a list of new vocab or expressions that you encounter is a helpful way to improve your language skills.

Taking notes in class and then going through the textbook/study guide on your own and adding content to your notes is a great way to consolidate your learning. Doing this after learning the topic in class as opposed to right before the test/exam is helpful, given the large volume of content in the sciences (especially for HL subjects). For practice, past paper questions, textbook questions, revision village, and kognity are good resources. Conceptual clarity is key in the sciences, so don’t hesitate to reach out to your teachers if you have any questions!

Always ask for help! The IB can be tricky at times, and meeting your teachers in breaks or free blocks is a great way for you to get feedback and clarify any doubts you have. We recommend doing this in advance, so that you can benefit the most. You can also always ask your seniors and the PSG :)

This is something that differs from person to person, but keeping a list of deadlines for the week or month really helps you plan and adds a sense of order to the otherwise hectic life of an IB student. If possible, try the T-minus 2 approach - setting an internal deadline of 2 days before. This may not always work, but the earlier you finish work, the calmer you’ll be.

Self-reflection is a must! The IB is rooted in principles of self-reflection and improvement, so we recommend the following: whenever you’re done with a test or assignment, write a short note of what you did wrong and how you can work on it, referring to the subject-specific rubrics of mark schemes. A lot of your teachers will do this with you after exams, but doing it yourself for practice will really help you identify your specific areas of improvement, and help you find a way forward.

But trust us, you can easily thrive in the IB as well as get the adequate sleep you need. Every person is different, so identify at what times you can focus and work best, and try to get about 6-8 hours of sleep everyday. It’ll help you be much more focused and work better in school and during the day

Your passions have a place in the IB! At first, it may seem like all your time may be focused on academics, but it’s really important to make time for your passions. From playing musical instruments to playing board games, you must make sure that you practice activities beyond academics. They help you get a good break, and help you feel better throughout the week. Joining clubs (or starting your own), your original CAS projects (where you can start creative community service initiative), and FDP are great outlets in school for this, use them well!

Past paper, textbook, and revision village questions are good resources for practice, along with worksheets given by the teachers. Keeping a list of hard questions that you encounter while studying for a test/exam, and then going over these questions before the exam is a good way to ensure that you are able to tackle the tougher questions.
