You split the track in a stereo format into 2 separate tracks and then just invert one of them, converted them to mono and export the file. This will make the vocal very quiet if not completely muted. The reason, I think, is that this method uses interference. Stereo tracks record the same music with a slightly different volume in instruments and vocals.
