OCD is one example of a mental illness. thought this was a relevant topic to address because it impacts my daily life heavily. OCD is Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that causes unwanted or intrusive thoughts (Bhandari, 2019). I found a testimony on someone who struggled with this and this is what I got out of it. As Audrey was explaining an example of how OCD affects her, I found it extremely relatable. “It’s something I don’t have a choice over, and if I don’t do the compulsion, I’ll be on edge.” This is exactly how I function every single day. It’s exhausting. I just recently found out that I had OCD. For the longest time, I didn’t know why I was having these thoughts. I thought, as the majority of people; that OCD is the need to have everything neat and clean. That is a huge misconception of this. It’s a form yes, but it isn’t always having things perfectly lined up or the canned food in the cupboard perfectly aligned together. At the end of her testimony she said that even though her OCD was a problem, she just saw it as a part of her as everything else is. I’m glad to know that I wasn’t the only one stressing over having these thoughts and because I chose this topic, I know it’s not something to be ashamed of and that it’s simply a part of who I have become.

There have been several successes when it comes to mental illnesses. Every single one is completely treatable. Some options may include antidepressants, therapy, and most importantly; time. Some people lose their battles with mental illness, but there are so many people and certified individuals who are able to help. If people aren't sure how to help, I'd recommend talking to elders how to help, promote hotlines, or if you don't want to be acknowledged, submit something anonymously.
