The Winder Activity Center/ WAC

2) Describe the goals for the campaign and what has to be achieved for it to be successful. 

 The goal for the Winder Activity Center is to give teens a free place to hang out and relax with friends and to just be teens. It also will provide a space where teens can stay away from drugs and receive help with addiction. It will also educate students on the effect drugs have on society. Also the WAC will create different community projects and events to expand awareness. For the Winder Activity Center to be successful, it will need to raise money and get sponsorships from the local community to begin building the center. Once the center is built, continuous community support will be needed because without teens coming to the center it will have failed its purpose.

3) Describe the obstacles (including people in power) that your campaign needs to deal with. Include the thinking of people in power that needs to change.

 Some obstacles we will have to jump through are finding a location to place the center, getting permission from the local government, and finding enough resources to support the campaign.

Explain reason they have for maintaining the status quo?

 Due to the lack of funding in Barrow County, it would take a lot of money to start this campaign and the government doesn't want to spend money it doesn’t have too. 

4) Describe the community groups your campaign needs to motivate and the changes in actions or beliefs that need to occur.

 Groups we need to motivate are the teenagers and especially teens who are surrounded by drugs or experience pressure to use them. Also any community group that wants to help improve the lives of the future generation. We need to change the habit of allowing teens to use drugs and that it's “OKAY” because it's not okay for the cycle if drug abuse to continue. 

5) Describe the events/activities that your campaign will use to motivate and bring together the community. Be detailed about what will happen and how it will be effective. 

 We will start at preexisting community events and get the word out about our campaign there with a booth and just engaging with the community and asking for their support. For example, Football games and other big sports events, Public Safety Day, and even concerts and events hosted in downtown Winder. Once we start to connect with a portion of the community we can eventually host an event of our own especially focused on building the center and just giving teens a place where they can go. At the events we can hand out educational materials, contact information, and little “souvenirs” such as pens and bracelets.

Look around for more creative ideas (like pet costume contests and talent shows). Don’t be boring.

6) Describe the educational material you created for the campaign. Explain why/how you made the choices and why you believe the material will be effective.

  We have an educational infographic with some quick facts that we can hand out. The infographic has facts that not only reach teens but they also reach parents and different types of people in the society. Also at our booth we can have our Simple Show playing to give an encouraging outlook on the center. The simple show is quick and effective which means if we have a booth set up where there are also a lot of other booths people may only be stopping by for a quick minute to look at what our booth has to offer. So we have to be able to play a quick video which talks about the center but also explains why it is important to this community. 

7) What kind of social media do you need to use to reach your audience?

 We have a twitter account where they can follow our twitter, to be updated on upcoming events and activities and to receive more educational materials such as videos and quick facts. Also on our twitter we will also be able to reach people who may not even live in the Winder Area but our interested in helping with our campaign. And because the campaign is directed towards teens the occasional meme or joke will be made to remind everyone that this is serious situation  but that we can also have fun and relate to one another. 

8) Describe the most important/effective material you posted and explain.

 Right now there is a competition where teens can submit their natural high. Natural Highs include any forms of exercise, writing, playing an instrument and even cooking! Teens explain their natural high and how they are encouraging and inspiring others to get a natural high as well instead of using or being involved with drugs, which is what the WAC is all about. Though this is not a campaign of our own it is still a good campaign that we can support and encourage our local teens to submit their natural highs. Its also a campaign that we can do again in the future and put our own spin on.
