The type of oppression that shows up in my book is violence because her captors were abusing her and taking advantage of her for her work. Shyima is the oppressed in this book after hours of working for her captors and being abused or hurt in some type of way"I'd had more than my share of bullying in my captors' home and in my first foster home" page 107. There is still a lot of human trafficking today and some people today are being abused for not working hard or not doing the right thing.

1. The type of oppression which the main character Shyima Hall in my book are witnessing is powerlessness. Because she was sold into slavery by her parent for exchange of money. She had to work for her captor 12 hours a day, and was often abuse by them. The quote which explain this is "Another time The Mom accused me of doing something with regard to the boys that I hadn't done. When I tried to explain, she called me a liar, grabbed me by the shoulder, and pushed me. Hard. Slapping, pushing, and screaming were part of life in that house.." Pg 72
2. Shyima Hall is the girl who was oppressed, and the captors Mom and Dad was the oppressor. The oppression in this novel is that the captors often abuse shyima, they abuse her physically and also verbally. This create the culture of silence for shyima hall. She believed that she was naturally inferior to her captors for a while.
3. The oppression in my novel related to the world around us, because there are still many slavery exists in the world today. They have to work for a long time everyday, and most time was not paid for their work.
