A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Sean Mallander served four years in the military. Outside of the military, his early work focused on health and fitness and included positions as a recreation center supervisor, a physical fitness researcher, and an exercise physiology lab manager. Sean Mallander also served as a unit director with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Weld County in Greeley, Colorado.

In 2011, Mr. Mallander began working in public education. He served as a physical education teacher and department head with Greeley's Weld County School District 6. In addition to his teaching duties, he created district-level assessments and mentored new teachers. He later advanced to the position of assistant principal, a role he held for more than four years.

Sean Mallander returned to classroom teaching in 2020 and currently implements the Freshman Academic Success Together (FAST) program at Prairie View High School in Henderson, Colorado. In the program, he helps students who have difficulties in academics and may need additional social and emotional support outside of the classroom.
