I tend to freeze and stutter a lot when I've got multiple eyes on me

When I was 15 in FBLA, I was entered in VERY last minute for our public speaking exam, and I was SO SCARED. I gave a speech about something completely random, but did the whole thing sitting down in front of all the judges with giant pieces of paper. SOOOO embarrassing.

Surprisingly positive! I was very shy growing up but it was always interacting with other people that scared me--so public speaking was a relief because it was just one-sided!

Its weird- I get excited to speak with anyone but when it comes to public speaking in a professional setting I get so nervous

If i had to pick, it would be the feeling of connection you get with the audience at the end of a speech, giving you the sense that your message was received well and how it was intended to be.

I get excited about my audience when public speaking. Since I publicly speak at work often it helps a lot once I gauge my audience and can improvise from there

We had to do a "senior speech" in front of the entire school in order to graduate. It was terrifying and even more terrifying was that it could be about ANYTHING. Somehow the no parameters made it worse.

I feel nervous about public speaking. I feel like if I don't script exactly what i am going to say I will say nonsense. I look forward to pushing myself outside of my comfort zone during the rest of the semester!

I feel like I've never really had an issue making stuff up on the spot growing up. Weirdly enough I do remember having to memorize and deliver Abe Lincoln's Gettysburg address in middle school and now I don't remember anything aside from the first line..

I love the feeling of going into "the zone"--when I'm delivering a speech, I'm able to tune out everything else, which helps me feel more confident and less nervous

It's much easier when I can speak about something I enjoy or someone who I want to hype up, like a good friend. I get nervous when I have to position myself as a subject matter expert or voice of influence.

I got picked to read a book in front of my kindergarten class, but when the day came to do it, I spoke too quietly for anyone to hear and my teacher took over. :( I was so sad.

I had to recite a poem in an English class and completely froze. All the hours I spent memorizing my chosen poem (and fully able to recite on my own!) went straight out the window the minute I stepped in front of the class.

I entered a speech contest in the 3rd grade and delivered a 5 minute speech about airplanes... I did not win

I'm not sure why I feel so adverse to pubic speaking because I used to be a theatre kid but I do not relish having the floor or being the center of attention. I like to hold up in the rafters and take it all in.
