Task 1: Transitions

Now that we have picked three of our favourite gymnastics skills, we need to think how we are going to link these. In gymnastics, we use transition moves, to link two or more skills. Watch the video above, and analyse how the gymnast links each of her gymnastic skills. For example, from 29 seconds in the video until 36 seconds, the gymnast performs a complex transition. Think about what ways you could link each of your gymnastic skills. You could use a pivot, a skip, a hop or a chassis to link skills. Now add your own transition moves to your routine!

Now it's time to develop your routine further by adding some level changes, for example, going from high, like stretching, to low, like an egg roll, to medium like a teddy bear roll. Watch this video to get some inspiration and add one that you think would work best!

To further add to our sequence, we need to vary the pathways we use. A pathway can be thought of as an imaginary line we draw on the floor as we move around. Some examples of pathways include: moving forward, diagonally, in a figure of 8 or even backwards. Watch the above video and note down with your partner 2 ways the gymnasts vary their pathways. Also notice how each gymnast has a unique pathway within the group. Then add 2 changes of pathway to your routine!
