So when I talked to friends and they said the course would be like history, I thought to myself history would repeat itself, no pun intended, and that It would be another one of those boring classes. However as the classes went by, I started learning and appreciating more about our history and it is what made us the Civilisation we are. Also that Dr Campbell could make parts of the class very interesting with jokes etc. I now understand that the course was not just "some boring history class" but that if you actually study your history, you can see the value and importance of it. Trump the new president-elect of the United states of America. The reason I chose this photo is because he has been the topic of conversation all over the news recently. In FOUN 1101 we learned about US Imperialism and as he has recently been elected as the next President of the United States, I decided to look at the influence and affecs America has on the Caribbean. America is a very dominant culture in the world today and US"imperialism" is a term that refers to the economic, military, and cultural influence of the United States on other countries. Culturally, people in the Caribbean ( and in my case Trinidad specifically) locals were more caught up in the US presidential election than they were for their own local government election. I remember how many posts and statuses i saw relating to Donald Trump winning the election, however there was barely anything whatsoever about this happening locally, this is how much our culture has merged with that of America. These immigrants brought with them not only their ability to work as labour but also their customs and traditions as well.Divali is Hinduism's most holy festival which these indentured labourers were a part of. Present day, we see how indian people have become a significant culture in Trinidad and Tobago. They have become a driving force in terms of technological progress, education and innovation.They brought many forms of hindu iconology when they  started practicing hinduism and divali itself.Hindu iconology can be defined as how Hindus transpire their form of worship into various forms and this stems from India which is reflected as the birth place of Hinduism. "West Indian" population in the Caribbean today, falls under the theme of Multiculturalism as the Caribbean is home to many different forms of culture such as this. From Found 1101 I learned many things about culture and I can see how divali has become what it is today, due to the addition of Indian culture, and Hinduism to our society.
