I think reaching out to the local community leaders is a key way to gain interest

in our project, and possibly forming links with groups such as the one above

We would implement a strategy that involves locals getting involved with the project via a social media hashtag. 

Locals would update statuses and images from their hometown where the event is being held in the lead up to the event, and use the hashtag #beneathourcross to promote their hometown.

This would be especially popular with the younger generation and a fantastic way to involve people of different ages in the community who might not have been interested otherwise.

Vistors and media present at the event would be encouraged to use to hashtag #oursoutherncross when uploading photos to Instagram or updates to Facebook and Twitter from the event. On all leaflets and advertising material the events hashtag, as well as social media handles for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram would be included, and a message to the reader to share their experiences via social media. We would also place posters around the event with the same message.

The benefit of this it is a form of advertising the event through one of the most popular channels of communication these days - social media - and would hopefully draw attention to the event.

Background in sociology, policy and environmental sustainability.

We would probably be looking at some political art as well to show our perspective on things like Refugees, etc.

As suggested on the Facebook page, a mission statement would be a good way to capture public attention and hopefully clarify what Australia Day means to all Australians.

We could even just present our ideas for them to seek their general support, as this would be a great talking point when writing about the project and involving the media.

The website for Arts NSW was very user friendly and I was able to find his name and learn more about him easily.

I pinched some of Cyra's words from the press release for the about page. This should create a consistent message.

I have put up a little sample of some work, but most of the website would be completed later in the project when we had a little more concrete dates and ideas.

Below there is an example of the format of the video installation I had in mind(in the film section). I imagine people fading in and out whilst telling a short bit about themselves with questions I provide, different generations one after another. At some points four different people answering four different questions one after another.obviously minus the funny faces seen here!

- Art workshops: for adults, teens and children. The theme could come from any area in the gallery and workshops could be run artists participating in the exhibition or the empty space project.

- Official Opening: Where all artists are invited and a great media event to promote the opening. And introduce our themes and how the exhibition works for example let people know about the social media campaign.

- Lunch Time Talk: Every Thursday a talk that goes for 40min over the lunch time hours happens. People can bring their lunch in and listen to an interesting talk either by the artists or on the themes represented in the exhibition

- Artist Q&A's

- Mentorship - Empty Space Artists will have the opportunity to learn from the professional artists featured in the gallery.

- Artists party - where all of the artists involved can network

The empty space project will then be located in empty shops located in walking distance to the gallery. These empty shops will showcase unknown & emerging artists.

Themes for both the exhibtion and the empty space project will focus on the Australian Culture and how we all came to be in this great land!
