We are generally given a lot of freedom with assignments, and asked to submit projects with very little restrictions or rules. In retrospect, I think it's one of the great strengths of this program, but when I first started, it really stressed me out! I wanted clear-cut instructions so I knew exactly what was expected of me and what to do. I don't think I really did anything specific to "overcome" this challenge; rather as I completed more and more of these types of assignments, and saw the diversity of submissions and ways to approach the task, with no one right answer, I became more comfortable with this type of activity. I think that's helped me grow as a person as well, and enabled me to get outside my comfort zone and think outside the box a little more! I am very bad at giving criticism whether constructive or not because I'm always afraid to say the wrong word or statement that may throw off my entire message. What I can say about this program is that it has helped me in more way than I can imagine. Before starting I wasn't able to work well in groups because most times it came to a point that I would do a lot of the work and the tasks wouldn't be completed the way I wanted to be. That is something I learned about this program, it's not an "I" effort its 'We" and working with your cohort members, instructors and mentors really helps you reach your maximum goal. I've learned so much from posting in the discussion forum and reading, sharing ideas and interacting with my cohort members.  I grew a lot throughout this program and I became more open to feedback and constructive criticism which helped me better my activities, my portfolio and even my teaching skills. The PD provides a great opportunity to learn about understanding the adolescent brain, and to explore the neurobiology and neurodevelopment sequence of executive function and executive skill development and its impact on learning. It will discuss that the learning disorders are not distinct entities, but rather underlying neurobiological, psychological, and social factors that overlap, leading to multiple and often changing diagnostic labels.
The EAL session provides instructional strategies to help students use academic language for specific purposes, using multiple grouping formats and structured tasks. It will also discuss how ELD and special education teachers should collaborate to scaffold student learning with strategies that break down learning tasks, provide practice, and include scaffolds to support language learning. I learned how to do as they say and never question what they do or what they ask me to do. As a teacher, I used to struggle to let my students lead not only the lesson activities but also what goes on in the classroom environment. I always used to feel that if I allowed them to take control, the classroom environment will become chaotic, they wouldn't focus on what they had to do, etc. Completing this program made me realize that I don't have to be in control of what goes on in the classroom all of the time. To improve relationships and support students in their learning, he encourages educators to replace the seven deadly habits with the seven connecting habits, which are supporting, encouraging, listening, accepting, trusting, respecting, and negotiating differences. I think it is important not to fall into the trap of either punishing or rewarding students for doing their work. We need to form a connection and meet the student half-way if we want to get them motivated to learn.
