** With most of the staff, listening to concerns and checking in works.  With the chronically negative, staying positive and detaching from their mindset helps.  Maybe we need to do the appreciation notes with a little candy again.   Or have a Grab a Soda Day where there is a soda in the staff room for anyone who wants one.  I’m trying to think of what gets me feeling better.   A smile and kind word always helps even when I’m a grump.  

** I think that posting a list of everyone who works in the building full-time with what they bring to the team might help.  Not sure how it would look and where it would go.  Maybe outside each classroom door?  

** I asked a few staff members what would lift their spirits.  One liked snacks and drinks in the staff room.  One said to shut the center down for five days and disinfect everything.  One liked the little notes last year and the small amount gift cards.

** We could also buy a small $10 item such as mini-waffle maker from Walmart and draw names for the item.  My brain just keeps thinking…

- You’ve been mugged (classroom by classroom) 

- Cookie bake off contest

- Chili cook off contest 

- Did you know.. (a fun/silly/interesting fact about employees) with their pictures to hang in the break room - similar to the break the ice game we did at a training a couple years ago to get to know each other 

- Scratch off tickets- that we can make and the prizes can be relevant to hilltop/candy bars/sodas/coffees/teas

This is in regard to the expectations list we worked on with Courtney. I think a goal for children in the lower four toddler rooms should be to learn solitary play. I’ve noticed that my biggest behavior challenges are with kids who can’t play with a toy in solitary play. These kids try to do cooperative play, but they just end up taking the toy away from the other child or disrupting what the other child is doing in some other way. And they can’t succeed at parallel play either. Apparently you can’t skip a step in the process.
