Knowledge ultimately hurts the creature, because he does not know how to control his emotions. In chapter 14, the monster says, "I can hardly describe to you the effect of these books. They produced in me an infinity of new images and feelings, that sometimes raised me to ecstasy, but more frequently sunk me into the lowest dejection." This quote describes the effect that knowledge has on the monster, and shows that he does not understand the power of intellect.

Knowledge ultimately hurts the creature because with knowledge, he has emotion. Which, he cannot control. In the beginning of chapter 12, the monster was explaining that he saw the boy and his companion go off somewhere to weep. Even though he does not understand why they are weeping, he still feels bad for them.

Ultimately, knowledge hurts the creature rather that helping the creature because knowledge creates emotion that we sometimes don't know how to deal with. In Frankenstein it says, "Through this work I obtained a cursory knowledge of history and a view of the several empires at present existing in the world;". When he first started reading these books, he did not completely understand them. As he continues to read them he begins to get new emotions. In chapter 13 of Frankenstein, it says “I cannot describe to you the agony that these reflections inflicted upon me; I tried to dispel them, but sorrow only increased with knowledge. Oh, that I had for ever remained in my native wood, nor known nor felt beyond the sensations of hunger, thirst, and heat!" The books gave him the sense of these new feeling that he didn't know what to do with.

Knowledge ultimately ends up hurting the creature because in Chapter 16, the book says "Hideous monster! Let me go. My papa is a syndic—he is M. Frankenstein—he will punish you. You dare not keep me." Frankenstein has watched how other people communicate for so long, he knows what everything means and when William says that he his hideous, it hurts his reputation a lot and hurts his feelings because he has the knowledge to understand what is happening and what it means. The monster ends up strangling him and lets his emotions get the best of him. When he learns things, he also learns that he isn't "normal looking" and that he is ugly which in the long run hurts him rather than helps him.

In the beginning of chapter 15 he finds some interesting books, he started to read them and tries to understand them, but the more he reads he starts learning new feelings. As he read one of the books he learns that they make him happy but more sad.“I can hardly describe to you the effect of these books. They produced in me an infinity of new images and feelings, that sometimes raised me to ecstasy, but more frequently sunk me into the lowest dejection."More than anything the books bring him down because he can relate to what the writer is saying. Now that he knows how to read, he happeneds to find the notes of Frankenstein and what he wrote about the process in making him. "Everything is related in them which bears reference to my accursed origin; the whole detail of that series of disgusting circumstances which produced it is set in view; the minutest description of my odious and loathsome person is given, in language which painted your own horrors and rendered mine indelible."Frankenstein curses his creator because he saw what Frankenstein thought of him. So with these new readings he has found he has learned more things, things that don't really gain him something good but teach him more of the reality.

It helps the creature understand why he is abandoned and why is has some of the issues he has now, but in many ways it hurts him. Through knowledge he understands what emotions are and how he feels and he observes everything he comes across him. However he doesn't know how to control these feelings.

In the text, the monster describes having a "miserable life" (pg. 123) after knowing more about the people around him. The reason he feels left out in a world like this is because knowing more about how the people live, he has become more prone to accepting the way they see him. He is accepting that the people see him as a monster, so he is going to act like a monster.

He has these emotions but he can't really control them. We also see him called a "hideous monster" in chapter 16 and sense he knows what they mean now it really hurts his feeling and outlook on himself.

The knowledge the monster learns in Frankenstein Chapters 14-16, hurts the image he has of himself. His creator talked of him in his journals and the monster saw how different he was from the world. In the text, the monster describes how he feels, "Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust? God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance." After the monster finds out what his creator thinks about him, he begins to get more angry with Victor for making him ugly and a disgrace.

In chapters 14-16 of Frankenstein, the knowledge acquired by the creature essentially agonizes him. This is indicated due to the fact that the the more knowledge portrayed to the creature, the more he is aware of his surroundings, who seem to think of the creature as horrific and dreadful. In the passage, the creature states "My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination?" The creature expresses this after acknowledging how he is different and similar to the people, who indisputably discriminate against him, around him. He is completely aware of the fact that according to the humans, he has no place in society with them, hence, he questions his future and existence.

Knowledge ultimately hurts the creature because the more he learns, the more he realizes just how miserable and different he is. This knowledge makes the creature feel many different emotions and questions his purpose. He displays this with the quotes from chapter 15 , “I can hardly describe to you the effect of these books. They produced in me an infinity of new images and feelings, that sometimes raised me to ecstasy, but more frequently sunk me into the lowest dejection." , "“As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition." , and "My person was hideous and my stature gigantic. What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come? What was my destination?".
