I was reminded that creating a growth mindset is a process, and that as an educator I need to have a growth mindset in regards to growing the growth mindset of others (that was confusing!). We can't simply just tell students the difference between the two types of mindsets and expect them to all of a sudden have a growth mindset. They need to experience what a growth mindset is to help develop one.

Also, I was reminded about the importance of embracing and celebrating failures. This is a great way for students to progress on their journey towards creating a growth mindset. We can teach students that mistakes or failures are what help our grain to grow stronger and smarter. I also need to work on embracing/celebrating failure as a teacher and a parent. Otherwise I am turning into Tara from last week's fixed mindset scenario where I always expect everything to be perfect!

I think many of the parent resources I've read are extremely helpful, but I need to find ways to get these to parents in the future that isn't overwhelming. I see some parents who are struggling with online learning, and these resources would be useful. With only two weeks or so left of our school year, I don't want to overwhelm parents.

We can't have something spoon-fed to us all of the time. It is healthy and helpful for us to work through those challenges to grow our brain and neuroplasticity!

The one comment that I read talked about students who say "I'm done" vs "I did my best work". I want to start using that verbiage with my students. We would talk about what they could do when they were done with their work...I am going to start using the phrase...after you do your best work...then....
Our words are so powerful and we have such a huge impact on their growth mindset. I love the idea that all students can learn. Productive struggle is good. I would do a dendrite challenge in my classroom and after this module of learning, I want to make sure that I continue to do it daily. It is too important to skip if we don't have time.

During this week I have learned that a Credo is important to create to remember our purpose and direction for life. It is important to live in the 95% and brainstorm our daily blessings. I also learned the importance of teaching about the brain before we can expect our students to understand how a growth mindset works. We need to give our students a productive struggle for them to be able to grow their brain. They need to understand that a struggle is good exercise for their brain and it is the only way the brain grows.

When they learn about the brain they will then have a better understanding of growth mindset. Growth mindset isn't something that you say you want and you just get, but rather something that needs to be worked toward and developed. I also learn the importance of creating a Credo for myself. Not only will that help me stay more positive but it will also benefit everyone around me including my family and students.
