The Native Africans are described as the classic European view of other ethnicity. "You could see from afar the white of their eyeballs glistening. They shouted, sang; their bodies streamed with perspiration; they had faces like grotesque masks-- these chaps; but they had bone, muscle, a wild vitality, an intense energy of movement, that was as natural and true as
the surf along their coast. They were a great comfort to look at."

The author of the text is the French and colonialism. At the end of the text, he describes their war ship firing on people as a "touch of insanity", showing that attacking people who had never done anything to the French was insane. He also feigns surprise at the French calling them enemies when all the author describes them as is "a great
comfort to look at", so obviously he is not supporting the French's view.

The narrator in Things Fall Apart sees colonialism, in the form of the missionaries, as a threat to their culture that has thrived for centuries. (S)He sees the missionaries and other influences of the white man, Europeans, first believes that the men can do no harm, but soon realize that they are taking many clansmen and converting them to Christianity. This is best represented by the feelings of Okonkwo after learning where Nwoye was all day.
