Today it is 31 degrees Fahrenheit. In the summer it is hot and green. In the winter it is cold and white. We have over 10,000 lakes in our state.  The biggest fresh water lake is Lake Superior.  Many families have cabins on a lake.  Going "up North" is a common thing for families to do on the weekends and over the summer.  This is what it looks like outside our classroom window today. It is always around 30ºC or 85ºF year around because we are near the equator! We have jungle and tropical type trees, with lots of monkeys! Singapore is a city with no real mountains just little hills. We get rain storms through out the year, but they usually only last a bit then we have clear skies! We are a 1st grade class from Santa Ana, CA. We are about 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean- and about 10 minutes from DISNEYLAND!!!!  One of the students in our class has a mom who works there!  Our land is very urban with many houses and streets and no open yards to play.  We play at community parks after school.  Our school doesn't have a traditional playground, either.  We play our sports on the roof of our building!  We do have a small area with a play structure, but it does not have grass, it has wood chips that poke us and get in our shoes.  Please come see our work on our Seesaw Blog:

The weather at the moment is bitter cold and it is only going to get worse. However, today there is no pollution which doesn't happen often for us. We can see the blue skies and the sun! Beijing is well known for the Great Wall of China and the majority of us have visited it! Our age range is from 8-9 years old and in our class we have people who are Chinese, Korean, American, British, Canadian, German, Singaporean, French, Russian and Polish. We just got the first snowfall of our winter season! All the students come bundled up with snowpants, boots, hats, gloves and mittens because it can get very cold in the winter! Today, the wind made it feel like 15ºF. Brrr! We are really lucky though, because we have all 4 seasons where we live. In the summer it is hot, usually between 80-90 degrees.  By Minnesota standards, definitely warm enough to go swimming in the lakes or rivers nearby!  Fall and Spring are perfect times of year to ride bikes outside.
