Zur Anpassung an kurzfristige Blutdruckschwankungen werden wichtige Kreislaufparameter u.a. mittels Baro- und Chemorezeptoren gemessen:
Die Barorezeptoren liegen insb. in der herznahen Aorta und dem Carotissinus und messen dort die Dehnung der Gefäßwand. Ist der Blutdruck erhöht oder erniedrigt, kommt es zu entsprechenden vegetativen Kompensationsmechanismen. Bei Hypotonie können zusätzlich längerfristige Mechanismen (RAAS-Aktivierung, ADH-Sekretion) aktiviert werden.
Die Chemorezeptoren liegen ebenfalls v.a. in der herznahen Aorta und dem Carotissinus sowie in der Medulla oblongata. Sie messen die Partialdrücke von O2 und CO2 sowie den pH-Wert des Blutes und steigern die Sympathikus-Aktivität bei CO2-Anstieg, O2-Abfall und pH-Abfall.
