I took a walk this evening to see what wonder was left for me to find. A walk my feet do most days, surely these two wanderers have found all that is left to find, but as I stood at the red light, waiting to cross the bustling highway only two minutes into my journey I noticed the world was changing giving me permission to see what I have missed. The red light blinks, the cars rush by, headlights swimming among the fading light of the sun. A cool rushed kiss on my cheek, the wind boldly moving everything in its way. Green light, walking again the branches and the leaves on the trees I past seem to be urging me forward. I can feel my heart and breath are changing, from faster and frantic against the rush of traffic and city life ebbing slower the further I get from the moving cars. By the time I reach the ocean with wind blowing free around me, leaves on trees are dancing with the each push of winds strong blow. I breath in deep and calm, at peace. In, Out, breathe, the steady movement of my chest rising and falling matching the current pushing the ocean across the shore washing everything clean. The sky moves from reds and purples to indigo until finally the night has stretched over all. Walking home as the night air cools and the street lamps flicker on I see my shadow on the fence post ahead of me saying, follow me and I will guide you through the dark until the you meet the lights once more.

As I stand waiting at that ticking red light, I hear ferocious chirping angrily telling the the loud drum of the traffic, alright we hear you, but we live here too. The birds angry chatter fades as I walk on making way for the fading tempo of cars to a soft whoosh of the wind.
The world is a symphony the trees playing the piano with their leafy fingers, playing a soft melody, my heart beat slowing adding a slow beat to the song of nature, my soft foot steps a dull tap, tap. The whisper of conversations, laughter, gossip, catch ups carried by the wind. The hum of the traffic, a siren, the thud thud thud of a runners feet coming up behind me, the tinkling of keys in my pocket hitting my hand as I walk, the distant coo of a bird calling. Words by R. Shafer sounds in my head and in this of awe of natures song ring so true; listening carefully allows me to marvel at the soundscape around me, enhancing and enriching this walk I am on. Can you hear the pure magic of the music? My gosh the world around me is talented and I am lucky enough to hold a ticket to a front row seat to tonight's show.

Movement and Sound As one.

A walk was just a mundane thing until I was able open my eyes and ears, willing to experience the beauty around me. I was never able to notice how much a walk in nature can affect me, mind body and spirit, how have I never noticed how fast my heart was beating, my mind racing in my everyday world that it took an assignment for me to realise that I need to take a walk and connect to the world around me to find stillness and calm, a slower beat. Movement and music go hand in hand and it takes both to fully appreciate the magic still left to find. As I walk past the traffic, past the fast moving cars to the openness of the park and beach I find myself asking questions.
Am I allowing the children in my care to feel this calm and open or; like walking in the traffic are they feeling frantic and rushed in an adults view of the world. What lessons can I learn from this? I need to be able use what I learned from this walk and see and hear children in all the magic and wonder that they are and allow me to, when I take the time to fully look and understand. This walk has been been eye opening, I stand at at the ocean and steady my breath, feel the wind around me, watch the water pushing against the shore, the skies colour changing, I hear the water crashing, the birds chirping and the wind shushing them to silence and as sun finally sets and the shadow lands emerge a smile escapes my lips. I see this Place, you won, these once all knowing wandering feet has seen the magic you still offer for those who choose to look.
