She was happy to find out I was her mentor, since we had built a prior relationship - she has built strong relationships with many of our teachers and students and this is another asset she can use. Overall it was a positive first meeting and I am looking forward to being her mentor!

We are transitioning over to the platform, so I figured it was best to host the meeting that way. I had intended to meet with them privately, but they expressed that they would be happy to have a group meet instead. It helps that we have been working together for a few years and have had the opportunity to work closely with each other in the past (one of them happens to be on my 3rd grade team!). Although we have been working, discussing and helping each other for weeks now it was nice to have a moment to slow down, unpack, discuss, and share. I told them that I was looking forward to getting to work with them. They have work ethic for days, don't shy away from change, and enjoy learning and growing! They seemed excited about being in the program and expressed their gratitude in getting to work with me. We decided in having our private, weekly meetings during our office hour at the end of the day or during planning. However, we have not chosen a specific day. I thought we could determine that later next week once we have actually begun classes and removed that first day anxiety. After our meeting one of my mentees stayed on, so I could show her how to upload her virtual classroom into Schoology. I truly look forward to working with such driven and innovative teachers.

I didn't want her to feel more overwhelmed with tons of questions. I allowed her an opportunity to vent and to share her experience.  I made sure to reassure her and create a safe place for her to express her frustrations. I offered to meet up with her tomorrow again on Teams to hopefully assist in organizing her learning system (one of her frustrations).
