At first she was sad because her idea of what the family's life was going to be like did not fit in this situation. However, with the support of her husband and of her other daughter they overcome this situation. The father gives a very good tip: people in this situation shouldn't think in a long period of time, they should take it day by day. The most important thing is to realize that she/ he is your daughter/ son. By working all together they all help this little girl to achieve her maximum. This kids need different therapies which helps them. Down Syndrome can be detected during the pregnancy as it happens most of the times, but there are other cases in which, the parents know this when they give birth. It is a big shock for all the families because they already had an image in their mind of how their lives with this kid was going to be and when getting this news everything changes. Parents at first feel bad because their kid is not going to be able to do as many things as other kids could, and the ones they are going to do are going to take them longer. One of the videos says that it is important to take things day by day because thinking of the future can result very overwhelming which is understandable. Now days, people is getting very used to see people with Down Syndrome, share classes with them, see them doing sports or working. This are examples of all the things that this kids can do. The fact of having Down Syndrome doesn’t stop them from living a normal life. My family has moved to different countries, and of course, my sister has come with us. The first time we moved, we went from Spain to Mexico, everything was new for everyone and the first day of school was a little bit scary for all of us, except for Irene, my sister. The same happened when we moved from Mexico to the US, this time, the language also changed, but this wasn’t an obstacle for her. Everytime she wanted to say something she’ll just ask to us how to say it in English and then she’ll repeat it. The first day of school the same happened, she went happy to the school as if it was the school she had attended before, without knowing more than a few words of English and she came happier than she left. 
Now she is in fourth grade, and everyday she has a new friend, as shown in the videos people with Down Syndrome are very social. She is in the Special Olympics team for Gymnastics and Swimming in the Wilton YMCA. IN the winter we go skiing and she loves to ski too. 
I think that now that society is accepting people with Down Syndrome, we have to open ourselves to learn from them because they have a lot to teach us. We have to start seeing the opportunities of sharing moment with people with Down Syndrome as a benefit for us too. I’ve always be in school where there is people with any kind of disabilities, and I thank my parents because this is one of the best things they have gave me.
