Lavender jumped excitedly. Her braids swung like yellow ribbons. "We need flowers, his favorite sweet cakes, and..."

Posie pulled out her shiny, glittery notebook as a magic gift! "He keeps crying for a magic gift!"

Hazle shook her head, her purple cat Seven rubbing her legs. "Big magic is too dangerous for a baby! Meow~ meow~"

✦Chapter Two: Again with the Crying?

"Stop crying, Baby Thistle!" Posie groaned. "He wants a magic flying broom!"

Lavender smiled. "I have an idea!" She sang loudly:

♬ "Come along and fly with us!

Talk to the Charm House, everyone!

Come on—it’s where the fun never ends!

It’s all about the magic of best friends!

To the Charm House!" ♬

Posie nodded. "The Baby Flying Broom always calms him!"

They strapped Baby Thistle onto the little broom. "Twelve spins left, twelve spins right!" lavender put the spell on baby Thistle.

Baby Thistle giggled, his tears drying as the broom spins

.

✦Chapter Three: The Mess

While Baby Thistle slept, Trnada Owl hooted. Wu~ wu~ Too late—

Crash! Baby Thistle waved posie’s wand, making a mess.

"Not again!" Posie shouted. Seven licked the sticky food off her purple paws.

Lavender’s magic camera was broken. Fairy-dust-light sparkled on the ruby-pieces.

✦Chapter Four: Family Help

Mom ran in, and Dad ran in. Mom's apron was covered in flour.

"What if my tiara is floating in water?" she asked. Dad Clean the jelly on the Windows.

"Why is there jelly on the windows? Can we send it to the broom when she goes on?"

"Why is the bird flying away?" she said.

✦Chapter Five: Good Birthday Ever After

They smiled around a broom-shaped cake. Baby Thistle blew out candles. His cheeks were pink as little apples.

"Real magic isn't spells," Lavender said, watching fireflies twinkling outside. "It’s family love."

Trnada Owl hooted, wu~ wu~. The Charmhouse stayed warm all night.

The End. Thank you!

The World Beyond the Pages 📚✨

Hi! I’m Amanda, a fifth grader with a bookshelf that’s bursting at the seams! My absolute favorite? The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. It’s a rollercoaster of sibling rivalry, lemonade stands, and life lessons. After devouring the book, I couldn’t wait to share the excitement with my partner-in-crime, Ella Luo.

We decided to take the story from the page to the pavement! We set up our very own lemonade stand, complete with handmade signs and a rainbow of cups that would make anyone stop and stare. But, as we quickly learned, real life doesn’t come with a script. One day, the heavens decided to test us with a downpour that sent us scrambling for cover. Another day, we hit a major snag—no sugar! But every hiccup turned into a chance to brainstorm, laugh, and grow closer. It was like we were living our own sequel to The Lemonade War!

Books are like portals to infinite worlds, but the real magic happens when we step through those portals and bring the stories to life. That’s what I call the "world beyond the pages"—where imagination meets reality, and we become the heroes of our own adventures.

So, what’s your favorite book? And how can you bring it to life? Whether it’s building a lemonade stand, crafting a magical potion, or embarking on a treasure hunt, the "world beyond the pages" is waiting for you to explore. Who knows? You might just find yourself in the middle of an adventure you’ll never forget! 🌟

Beyond the Pages – The Clockmaker’s Secret By Phoebe

Chapter 1: The Mirror’s Whisper

Dust floated in the air as KC Corcoran ran her finger along the fancy frame of the mirror. The glass wasn’t normal—it shimmered like liquid, with purple and blue threads swirling in a mesmerizing pattern. Marshall Li stood behind her, holding his sketchbook tightly, as if it could protect him. “It looks… alive,” he whispered.

“Don’t be scared,” KC said, but her voice shook. The mirror hummed softly, like a faraway storm.

*“Touch it,”* a voice whispered—not theirs, not human.

Marshall’s hand brushed the surface. The world disappeared.

———————————————————————————-

Chapter 2: Phoebe’s SOS

They landed on a shiny school hallway floor, dizzy and out of breath. A girl with sharp eyes stood over them, holding a locker door like a shield. “You’re late,” Phoebe Wang said. “The clock disappeared *yesterday*.”

“How do you know who we are?” Marshall asked, confused.

Phoebe pointed to a worn book in her backpack: *Ron Roy’s Time Twisters*. “Page 42. ‘KC Corcoran: brave leader. Marshall Li: map expert.’ You’re here because *this*”—she held up a photo of a tall school clock—“isn’t just broken. It’s a message.”

KC squinted. Where the clock should have been, a plastic copy hung crookedly, its hands stuck at 10:35. Scratched across its face in gold paint: **“Time pays, but who’s counting?”**

-——————————————————————————-

Chapter 3: Clues in the Chaos

Phoebe’s house became their base. Maps of SGA Academy covered the walls, marked with red X’s where clocks were acting strange:

- **Library clock**: Running backward.

- **Gym clock**: Stuck at 3:33 AM.

- **Principal’s office**: Smashed to pieces.

“The real clock is an antique from the 1800s,” Phoebe explained. “But the plastic fake? It feels heavy, like something’s hidden inside.”

Marshall flipped open his sketchbook. “The school’s old blueprints show a secret space behind the clock—a vault for old treasures. But…” He frowned. “This hallway doesn’t exist anymore.”

KC smiled. “We’re time travelers, remember? Let’s go *find* that hallway.”

-———————————————————————————-

Chapter 4: The Ghost in the Gearworks

Disguised as parent helpers, they explored SGA after hours. The halls echoed with strange ticking sounds.

**Clue 1**: Under the fake clock, KC found bits of **glow-in-the-dark paint**—the same kind used in the school play’s ghost props.

**Clue 2**: Marshall noticed a dusty ladder leading to the ceiling. “Someone’s been up here recently. Look—footprints in the dust.”

**Clue 3**: Phoebe froze. “The vault… it’s behind this wall.” She pressed a cracked tile. With a creak, a hidden door opened, revealing empty shelves… and a single crumpled note:

**“9,000,000 yuan OR the clock is gone forever. – The Clockmaker”**

-———————————————————————————

Chapter 5: The Janitor’s Story

They found a young janitor in the bathroom.

“Ah, the Clockmaker,” he said, cleaning a rusty gear. “Old story.

By Helen Pang G5.1

Beyond the Pages

It was a dark and stormy night.

Out of this wild night, a strange visitor comes to the Anna house, and beckons Marie to go into a mysterious little mirror.

In the middle of nowhere, Marie and Ms.Wo came out of the mirror. Suddenly, a flash came, and the mirror disappeared. Marie was very frightened , and cold, as she was in her night dress. Ms.Wo then explained to her, that because her mother was missing, they came here to find Marie’s mother. The place they were in is called the GT. When Marie first arrived, she was astonished, as in the GT, everything was the same. Identical houses, identical yards, identical people, and on and on and on. Later, she learned, that this area is controlled by a shadow, called IT. If you are different from the others many times, you will get caught, and be punished.Marie’s mother was trapped in this place.Luckily, Ms.Wo casted a spell on Marie, so that they can’t be seen.

In order to save Marie’s mother, they had to find Marie’s mother and stop the IT from controlling her mind. The only tool that they had was something that the GT don’t have. They were determined to find the best way to stop the controlling.

As they hurried on, they checked each house, sure that they didn’t miss anything. At the end of a street, there loomed an enormous building, at least two story high, and wider than a room, made of dull, bronze-like material. In it, it sat the IT. Suddenly, Marie realised something. What was Marie and Mother connected with? Love, of course. She shouted at the IT, let go of my mother! I love her! That did it. Slowly, Marie’s mother appeared in the darkness right behind IT. They had a huge reunion, and promised to never let go of each other, ever again.

By:Phoebe Wang G3.1

Chapter 1: The Mirror’s Whisper

Dust danced in the afternoon light as KC Corcoran examined the strange mirror in her Shenzhen apartment. The frame looked ancient, but the surface moved like swirling purple water. Marshall Li shifted nervously behind her, his backpack full of snacks crunching. "It looks... dangerous," he whispered.

"Don’t be scared," KC said, but her hand shook. The mirror buzzed like thunder.

" Touch it,"whispered a voice that wasn’t theirs.

Marshall’s fingers grazed the surface. Everything disappeared.

Chapter 2: Phoebe’s SOS

They crashed onto SGA International School’s shiny hallway floor. A girl stood over them holding a math textbook like a weapon. "You’re late," said Phoebe Wang. "The main clock disappeared yesterday."

"How do you know us?" Marshall rubbed his elbow.

Phoebe pulled out a dog-eared copy of *The West Town Mysteries*. "Page 42: 'KC leads, Marshall carries tools.' This is our I know you and it’s me that have sent you here isn’t just a missing clock." She showed a photo of the empty clock space. A plastic fake hung crookedly, its hands stuck at 10:35. Red paint dripped down the wall: "Time pays, but who’s counting?" “Now let’s start to work on the mystery!”

"Come to my apartment," Phoebe said. "My mum makes good milk tea. We’ll talk where it’s quiet."

Chapter 3: Patterns in Time

Phoebe’s bedroom walls were covered with SGA maps. Red circles marked strange clock incidents:

- **Library**: Digital clock spinning backward

- **Basketball court**: Clock stuck at 3:33 AM

- ** Principal office**: Clock smashed

"The real clock was over 100 years old," Phoebe explained. "But this plastic copy feels heavy—like something’s inside."

Marshall spread out blueprints. "Old plans show a secret vault behind the clock. But..." He frowned. "This hallway was removed during renovations."

KC grinned. "Good thing we time-traveled! Let’s find that old hallway!"

Chapter 4: Whispers in the Walls

Disguised as cleaning crew helpers, they searched SGA at night.

*Clue 1:* KC found glowing paint under the fake clock—the same used in drama club’s ghost costumes.

*Clue 2:* Marshall found fresh shoeprints on a dusty ladder to the ceiling.

*Clue 3:* Phoebe pushed a loose tile. A hidden door opened, revealing empty shelves...and a note:

"¥9,000,000 or the clock disappears. – TCR"

Chapter 5: The Broken Rhyme

They found the night janitor fixing pipes.

“We need you to tell us the clock’s history!Who else can know it better than you?”

"The Clockmaker legend?" He laughed bitterly. "Man who built SGA’s first clock. They destroyed his workshop to build new classrooms. Now ghosts tick in the walls."

Phoebe stepped closer. "You’ve seen something."

"Last week..." He lowered his voice. "Someone climbed that ladder, humming 'Tick-tock, gold unlocks...' Sounded like..." He eyed KC’s Time Twisters book. "...someone from your stories."

Chapter 6: Truth in Reverse

The mirror gave a new clue: "Truth ticks backward."

At the library, Marshall turned the broken clock’s hands backward—10:35 became 01:53. The wall shook, revealing the stolen clock...and their security guard Ms.Janitor!

"I had to!" Ms.Janitor cried. "The school’s selling the clock to pay bills! But its gears prove this land belongs to our community!I just claimed up the ladder and took it carefully down, while I was taking this clock down I saw…"

Police sirens howled. Ms.Janitor ran into the rainy night, clutching a brass key.

Chapter 7: New Ticking

"Case solved?" Marshall asked as the mirror pulled them home.

Phoebe held up a gear with strange markings. "Ms.Janitor was protecting the clock. The real Clockmaker left this—it’s a map to something bigger."

KC high-fived them. "Next Saturday?"

The mirror swallowed them with a hum.

Epilogue: The Girl Who Hummed

Two weeks later, a new student arrived at SGA—quiet Lilith from Hong Kong. As she passed Phoebe, she hummed "Tick-tock, gold unlocks..."

The gear in Phoebe’s pocket grew warm.

Somewhere beneath Shenzhen, clocks began to chime.

[Beyond the pages]

Of course Santa Claus is true

Mark Huang

G4.1, SGA

We’ve all read stories of Santa Claus before, but what do you feel if you are really inside Santa Claus’ office? We’ve all seen pictures of the glaciers in the books before, but what does it feels like to really step on it? This is me, turning these pictures and words on pages to “if”, then turning these “if”, to a real fact.

We need to read books, of course, but taking the information in books to the reality, to try it. If we just read books and doing nothing, it will be no use to us, it will make no difference.

When my parents told me stories about Santa Claus, questions swarmed into my head: Where does he live? How old is he? Does he really exist? So I sweared that I will go to meet Santa Claus no matter what.

At 2019, I stepped on the land of Finland. Inside North Pole circle, Rovaniemi, Santa Claus village, I finally went into Santa Claus’ office. I was thrilled to be face to face with the most famous old man of the world. Guess what I was feeling then? Excited? Crazy? Nope. When I was staring at his well-known round glasses, big white beard, tall and pointy red hat, brown long boots, I was too nervous to speak even a word. He stared back at me, like he was looking deep into my mind. As if he understood my nervousness and shyness. Then, he said nothing and gave me a toy snowmobile with a big smile, hiding under his beard. At last he took a photograph with my family, hugging me. That was a lovely time we spent together.

He gave a five years old boy his greatest comfort and love. So every Christmas Eve, I hope that my old friend will appear in my life again. Back to the topic, I really realized the definition of ‘Beyond the Pages’: Santa Claus is not only a robotic character from the book, but a live, nice old guy.

Recently, I’ve being reading <The Lord of the Rings>. The scene there was so beautiful that I said to my parents that I want to go to New Zealand immediately. To feel the same feeling that I met Santa Claus in Finland. My parents agreed and decided that we’ll go at Monday, that is tomorrow. Now I am very very very excited.

This is the meaning of ‘Beyond the Pages’: To try it, to feel it. To really get into the books, and out of it. To see through pages, imagining and touching the future and beyond.

By Cleman Chen

G5.2

I stare down at the soft grey blanket of ash that laps over my shoes. How will I be able to orient myself in this world of grey? A few years ago, the neo-nazis seized power again, but unlike last time, they succeeded in conquering the entire world, devoid of Jews, Roma and any disabled humans. They have made their capitol in the alps, where any form of attack would trigger a full-scale annexation of the area. Then again, we have a significant advantage, and that is the advantage of unity. Hitler’s dead, so in the Capitol, there’s currently a power struggle over who will be the next Fuhrer. They have made entire world was turned into 21 areas, each providing something to the capitol. Now, as I stand in total ruins of Area 21 that got blown off the map, I couldn’t help but wonder how I caused so much chaos.

The voice of Seneca Heavensbee the minister of the war office, cracks over my implant. “Korokii, are you there?” It had been almost a year since most of the districts have mounted a full-scale rebellion after I revealed all the atrocities the Nazis committed, the grotesque human alterations, the mutilations, the surgical “enhancements” that mutated most. Right after those secrets were spilled, the remaining districts trashed the place, rebelled, risked their lives for the cause “…and my home was splifficated by firebombers. My region was initially known as the United States. Ian Xu, my partner, follows me as I return the the The Lost Area, with the so-called Area 51 a part of it, an independent state that is way too militaristic for my taste.

After we return, the brains of the area assembled and for some reason, Ian and I are invited to join. The commander, a young woman named Coin, recounting the interior fortifications and failed attempts to enter the Capitol. The main reason was simply that we have to scale massive mountains to even see the “blasted place” as Coin put it. The brains suggest almost anything. Poisoning their water, air strikes all have problems. There’s more than enough antiaircraft weapons ready to go, and water will be purified before drinking anyway.

Then, out of the blue, Ian said: “bomb the mountain elevations, avalanche the entire city, leave no survivors!”, the expression from each ranged from giddiness to what I can only describe as sorrow. Some say that might the population will be unsustainable due to there being so many in the Capitol and the bases around it. Ian however, doesn’t back down and said: “It’s not like you guys have a better idea! Serves them right for doing that first! “, still, there’s a faction that suggested we can try diplomatically instead of going straight for the kill as we will be equally guilty. But since there’s literal Nazis there, they eventually backed down and agreed. Ian made these cold-hearted decisions, all because he was also in the same area with me, the one that got vaporised by the Capitol. He wants revenge no matter what the cost, even if it meant killing everyone there. It’s cold hearted but it here’s no suitable alternative so we did it with heavy hearts and no other good solution.

Initially, the enemy forces didn’t bat an eye because we bombed the mountain. When they realise what we were up to though, it was too late. Mountains are prone to those disasters, but we stand tiny and fragile compared to the avalanche of stones that come to rest after crushing the Capitol. The once beautiful alps are now just as tall as any hill, the snow gone and the lives of millions along with it. The initial shock turned in celebration for some, and mourning for others. It was maybe the biggest act of destruction and loss of life in human history except for the atomic bombings. What did we just do?

Lily loved books. One day, while reading *The Enchanted Forest*, the words shimmered and pulled her into the story. She found herself in a magical forest, where a talking fox named Jasper greeted her. “The Shadow Queen has stolen the Light of Imagination,” he explained. “Without it, stories will fade.”

With Jasper’s help, Lily embarked on a quest. She outsmarted the Shadow Queen using her wits and a glowing pendant, restoring the forest’s magic. As a reward, Jasper gave her a golden key. “This unlocks any story,” he said. “But the best adventures are the ones you create.”

Back in the library, Lily smiled. She knew the magic of stories was real—and it was just the beginning.
