We have selected you due to your track record and ideal macro nutrient make up, your bun has the carbs, your patty has the protein and your cheese has the fat. You must infiltrate a top-secret enemy base known as the 'digestive system'. So far, none of the informants we have sent there have returned.          <title>Ingestion</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Well. Today is the day. From what I've heard, first stop is the mouth.<br>*several minutes later*<br>There it is. I see it. In I go.<br>Well, it's rather dark in here. From what I can tell, the mouth is where the food is broken into a paste in order for the body to begin the process. The teeth and salivary glands work together to break down the food into a more usable form. The salivary glands produce saliva, which has an enzyme called amylase in it. Amylase breaks starches down into smaller disaccharides. Once the food is sufficiently chewed, the pharynx, which is part of the throat, with the help of mucus, something also found in saliva. Mucus acts as a lubricant to help the pharynx contracts and swallows the food down and pushes it into the esophagus which is the transport tube to the stomach. <br>So far so good. A little sticky, but nothing crazy. This is Private Cheeseburger, over and out.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Digestion</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Still completely dark in here. I have a feeling I won't see the light of day until I get out of this weird, alien place. <br>I deserve a raise.<br>I've entered a weird sac like organ called the stomach. The stomach has extremely strong muscles lining the walls to contain and mix the stuff inside. When the stomach realizes food (me) has entered, a hormone called Gastrin is released and creates Gastric juice, which is made of mucus and digestive enzymes and BOY does it SMELL. The gastric juice is highly acidic, (there is HCl in there after all. I discovered this when I started to dissolve. 2/10 wouldn't recommend) because certain digestive enzymes such as pepsinogen require the Hydrochloric acid to react. In the case of Pepsinogen, it turns into pepsin, which is responsible for breaking proteins into amino acids. <br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Absorption</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Now that I've been broken down, I'm being absorbed by the body to gain nutrients. The small intestine does most of the absorbing. Since most of the breakdown of food into raw nutrients occurs in the small intestine, it makes sense that most of it is absorbed immediately into the small intestine. Once the nutrients are absorbed, the circulatory system brings the little chunks of me throughout the body. Let me tell you something, this mission has been a...strange experience so far. The feeling of being broken into little chunks and then absorbed and brought through the bloodstream, is....odd. Well, I'll report back when I reach the next stage.          <description><![CDATA[<div>Well I've officially been absorbed and sent throughout the body. My discarded corpse is now left in the large intestine. Not sure what's gon.....OH GOD WHAT IS THAT. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER ACCEPTED THIS MISSION SWEET BABY POTATOES.<br>*plop*<br>I feel.....I..... *faints*<br>Now that I'm conscious, let me tell you what just happened. Once my nutrients had all been absorbed, whatever was left of me exited the large intestine and entered a place I can only describe as truly horrific. A place worse than hell. I wouldn't wish my worst enemy's to go there. I believe it's called the anus. It's effectively a garbage shoot for the left overs. Then, all of a sudden, THE LIGHT. Oh how I have missed it. <br>Well then, mission accomplished. Now to report back <br>*toilet flushes*<br>Oh no. </div>]]></description>

         <title>Digestion Continued </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I've now left the stomach and have entered a small tube named the small intestine. The small intestine has 3 sections. The Duodenum, the Jejunum, and the ileum. The ileum is where most of the nutrients are absorbed. The jejunum some nutrients are absorbed and further digestion occurs. Finally, the duodenum is where most of the enzymes are added and where digestion begins. The order of the sections is Duo, Jej, ile. The pancreas is also part of the digestion process. When fat rich chyme enters the small intestine, a hormone named Cholecystokinin is released by cells in the duodenum. CCK signals the pancreas to create enzymes for macronutrient digestion and also tells the stomach to slow down digestion to give the small intestine time to digest fats. when acidic chyme enters the small intestine, prosecretin is converted to Secretin, which is a hormone that tells the liver to make more bile and the pancreas to create enzymes for fat and protein breakdown. The main function however, is to create Bicarbonate ions to neutralize the acidic chyme. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The pancreas also produces an enzyme called trypsinogen, which is an inactive form of a protein-digesting enzyme called trypsin. The trypsinogen goes to the duodenum where an enzyme called enterokinase converts it to trypsin. Trypsin does the same as pepsin by breaking down proteins into amino acids. Fats digested in the small intestine are broken down by a group of enzymes called lipases. lipases break down the fats into fatty acid molecules. regarding digestion, the livers most important function is the production of bile which breaks down fats. Bile is always being produced, and when being unused, they are stored in the gallbladder. The liver also removes toxins like alcohol from the body's blood. I've now entered a larger tube named the large intestine, which breaks down the last of the remaining nutrients. <br>Sweet baby potato, that was a lot of info to take in. Hopefully I can remember all of this in my report.... Private Cheeseburger, over and out.</div>]]></description>
