Answer 2-3 of the following questions about your own elementary/middle school: 1.How supportive and caring were most of the teachers? 2. Did you feel a sense of safety from violence and bullying? 3. How connected did most students feel to the school? 4. Was your school culturally diverse? If so, did everyone feel welcomed and celebrated?

There was one way to do things and not a lot of opportunity for creative thinking. My school was not very culturally diverse. Since it was a private school, the majority of the students were white. There were a handful of students that were not(including Walter Payton's kids). They were not seen differently and were included and celebrated.

I went to a Catholic School so my teachers were very "old school." We stood when we responded to answers, we sat in rows of desks, and teachers were extremely strict. It was a very small building so my peers knew each other quite well for many years. Most students went K - 8th grade. We def were not culturally diverse in McHenry during the late 80s and early 90s! However, the school did celebrate often with assemblies, parents were often invited in for celebrations of traditions and holidays during the day, and sporting events were a big deal for the community to come together.
