I am teaching informational technology and world language to 1-2 graders. There worlds are opening because of technology. I would like to have more sites in which students can experience the culture visually because of limited reading.

I think music and art have powerful opportunities for communication where the music and art can express emotions, and how we can share our experiences.

I think there are opportunities for students to read about global current events. I also would like to include having the students write letters to kids from other parts of the country or world.

so the themes that you have shared in today's presentation have hit home for me big time. The challenge that I experience is how to make it all concrete for my kids. I like the ideas that you give but I have some questions about the bigger curriculum picture.

The Glocal aspect of this discussion is important. I want my students to find a way to solve local problems to improve their own community. Doing so will provide the motivation to help others.

I would love to explore other countries and their business programs. I would love to try the foreign exchange through the internet. I am not sure what the challenge would be. Our district is wonderful with support. Maybe the challenge will be language barriers.

I teach upper elementary school general music and I'm hoping to start playing more non-western music for the kids. Perhaps starting each class with a piece of music from another part of the world or a different time in history. Students from other places could even recommend pieces for us to listen to if they wanted.

I teach 5th ELA and Social Studies. I am wondering how to bring in more authentic explorational when learning various SS topics that aren't just reading the textbook and having open discussions. I wish the Social Studies curriculum covered global topics as well as US history.

I teach preschool and I use many videos of different places. We "go on a field trip" to learn about other parts of the world and how they may do things differently. We also use pictures of objects from other countries to practice counting such as different animals that we would not see in New Jersey.

Finding additional science resources

I teach 6th grade science. I would love to explore what science research is happening now in other countries. As well as where the science we know today came from. What countries, what was happneing. Who is at the forefront of new exploration.

I am wondering how to incorporate these ideas into my lessons. Global studies is not something that has been incorporated into my ELA curriculum.

I use a lot of props, posters, books and labels that are in three different languages. The lesson plans are planned to meet the needs of the children it is differentiated and modified also, real life experiences and object is important as well as hands on learning.
