Evidence 1: Feminism and Sexism

This quote was retrieved from a textbook of Saylor Academy from saylordotorg.github.io that talked about how feminist viewed sexism and what they thought about and it stated, "...patriarchy (male domination) lies at the root of women's oppression..." (Saylor Academy, 5). This quote is stating that the reason that women get oppressed is because patriarchy exists and meanwhile patriarchy exist women are going to keep on getting oppressed. The author continued by saying "Patriarchy itself must be abolished, they say, if women are to become equal to men"(Saylor Academy, 5). It is stating that if we want women and men to be equal we need to eliminate patriarchy which tells men that they have power the only way of having equality is to eliminate that idea.

Evidence 2: Beliefs About Wife Beating Among Turkish College Students

A second piece of evidence is from an educational website titled

Beliefs About Wife Beating Among Turkish College Students: The Effects of Patriarchy, Sexism, and Sex Differences by Nuray Sakall from link.springer.com . Sakall talked about how patriarchy changed the view of Turkish college students on how they viewed the topic of wife beating a quote I retrieved from that website is, "...male participants exhibited more approval of wife beating than did female participants. Further, male participants who had more favorable attitudes toward patriarchy and who were high on hostile sexism viewed wife beating as more acceptable and blamed women for eliciting the violence"(Sakall, 6). This quote explains that males who are more accepting towards patriarchy are more accepting of wife beating. Another quote I got from Sakall is,"Regression analysis showed that patriarchy and hostile sexism predicted attitudes toward wife beating the best" (Sakall, 9). This quote are stating that men agree of beating up their wives because patriarchy tells them that they have power.

The last piece of evidence I was able to find was a quote from a video called Sexism and Patriarchy: Definitions and Forms from http://study.com by Wind Goodfriend she explained and gave examples of patriarchy, gave the definition for sexism and patriarchy, the different forms of sexism, the differences of patriarchy and matriarchy, and how it functions in our world a quote that I found useful was, "Many social scientist argue that patriarchies are so popular because most cultures throughout history have given men more power than women"(Wind Goodfriend, 3:21) Many people know more about patriarchy societies because most societies follow that idea. Is very popular because our history has always given men power instead of women. It also stated that there is more patriarchy societies than matriarchy societies. Matriarchy societies being the opposite of patriarchy so instead of men having the power the women have the power.
