It is about a girl named Hetty (also known as Emerald) who, after her mother's death, goes out in search of her long-lost father. During her adventurous search for a happy ending, Hetty encounters a lot of strange and exciting events and people and in the end has to choose between her father, her beloved Jem or a mysterious figure from her past.
