Representative Democracy

Israel's government is structured in the form of a Representative Democracy. Israel legally calls itself a "Jewish and Democratic state". Israel has a governmental structure like many other representative democracies, such as the United States; which has a Legislature and an elected leader. In this case, Israel has a prime minister who has a four year term (Benjamin Netanyahu), and a legislative committee called the Knesset, all the members of which are elected and also serve four year terms.

How leaders come to power.

Israel holds elections every four years to elect members to the Knesset and of course a Prime Minister. This has stayed true through most of Israel's history. This streak was disrupted in 2014 when the Knesset was dissolved following political upheaval, (essentially the members were arguing and 'violence' erupted in the Knesset) lawmakers unanimously voted to dissolve the Knesset and hold elections a few months afterward.
Unlike the United States where there are only two major parties, in Israel there are thirty-four. When elections come around and people go to the ballots, they aren't voting for people, they're voting for a party to get seats in the Knesset, the party has a list of people that they want to be representatives and the party chooses their top people on the list to take the seats that were elected to that party.
The Prime Minister is elected by the new members of the Knesset. A prime minister can serve multiple terms.

Laws

Israel is considered a first world country. Thus the laws that the citizens must follow aren't too dissimilar to other first world countries such as the United states, United Kingdom, etc. This means that Israel's laws are very similar to nations like the ones I just mentioned. Laws that are seen as common sense in the United States, are the same way in Israel.
While Israel is considered a "Jewish Nation state", no individual is forced to follow the customs and traditions of Judaism. This point is also reinforced when you see how Israel has been willing to share Jerusalem with Muslims and Christians since the founding of the country.

Rights of Arab citizens

Israel is not too dissimilar to most modern free first world countries. In fact , the Human Development Index Places Israel at Nineteen, which is among countries like South Korea and Japan. Israel is considered a "Jewish Nation state",and has had multiple conflicts with Arab states such as Egypt, Jordan, Syria and the people of Gaza, in the past. Despite this, Arabs are represented very well in Israeli society. Jewish children and Arab children go to the same schools, both Jewish and Arab peoples must serve in the Israeli military if they were born in Israel, and if the country falls on hard times that directly affects the citizens of Israel, no one group takes prominence over the other.

Comparison

Comparing the relatively free life of Israeli citizens to the oppressive border rival of Syria fits well. Unlike Israel, Syria doesn't uphold the natural rights that their citizens have. Instead, it oppresses it's citizens and shuts down competition. Both Syria and Israel have elections, but the Syrian elections are rigged. This, in essence, makes the current president Bashar al-Assad ruler for life.
