The Dan Mask is used for protection and communication with the spirit world. They would be worn when someone was traveling away from home to protect them. When dancers wear the mask, they become the spirit of the mask. The masks are carved of wood. The go master guards the masks. My experience with painting the mask was very calming and therapeutic. I really enjoy painting things which is part of the reason why I chose to paint a mask. I learned that the dancer wearing the mask will speak the language of the spirits during a ritual. Some masks also have sacrificial marks on its face. There are multiple different masks and each one has a different use during a ritual.

I decided to do this project because I truly love to cook, through my whole life I have wanted to cook. I have always wanted to make a really good dish, and this was it! The most challenging part of the project was making the dough, as it TOTALLY stuck to my fingers. It was at absolute worst. I have to say however, that it was fun. Over all the three chapati I made the best ones were the ones that were the least cooked. They were gone pretty fast but I had a ton of fun. Mr. Jokela, you should do this project because it's really fun and delicious! Also it's really eazy.

Mr. Jokela, you should do this project because you will know or at least be familiar with what other students are doing. Making it easier to teach for you now understand what is hard about each project and what parts should be more exceptionally easy to accomplish. This will also help with your teaching, for it tells what people may need to learn to understand the project. Additionally, it may help your learning too because you are taking the time to study and do your own work and research. Additionally, it helps you figure out your own writing and what you need to change in your assignments, such as what is not well explained enough or if something is over emphasized.

Picture won't work

I decided to do this project because I love cooking and I thought that it would be an amazing way to taste food from a different country. The most challenging part of doing this project has to be having to choose which dish to make and which ones to save for another time. I learned that there are so many different dishes just i\from one area in a small part of one country in west africa. When I was searching for recipes I came across this website that shows some people's recipes and their stories around the recipes. I forget what website it was but it was really cool to read people's stories about the recipes. You should do this project because it is very fun and the food was really good.

I made a poster. I really liked the idea of making one, and I had many ideas. The quote I chose is “strength is nothing without courage”. This is the translation from the african proverb “If the ram is fond of butting, its courage comes from the heart and not from the horns”. I thought that was very meaningful, and it connected to me in some ways. I try to be as strong as I can, but all it really takes is for me to have some courage. This can apply to almost anyone. The most challenging part of the project was probably painting it. I love my paints, but I went over a lot of the lines I made in pencil and had to improvise. It was a journey but I got it done and I’m very proud!

I decided to do this project because my mother went to west Africa and Jamaica in 1991 that is where she got this super cool African mask.I would show it to you but we have it stored away but anyways I wanted to do this because my mother inspired me to do this project and because I wanted to learn more about my ancestry and where I came from.what i have learned from this project was that west Africans take time and detail.number 1 on there clothing in general has very nice and small details from the dots to the lines every thing is precise. But in all my total experience with this project was that it was great it shows history and clothing from Africa.I would love to do this again but with different country.

I decided to do this project because I enjoy preparing lots of items and mixing them all together, and having a delicious result. The most challenging part of the project was picking the recipe cause there were a lot of options and choices. One cool thing I learned about Africa from this project was that Ethiopia (the place that the food came from) usually has meat in their meals, but they have fasting times where they don't eat meat, there are also a lot of vegetarian recipes. Mr. Jokela, you should do this project because it was fun to cook the vegetables in the oil and overall just having a product after work is fun

One cool thing I learned was how important drums are in West African Culture, being used in important things like weddings, funerals, and religious meetings. I decided to choose drumming as I thought it was the most interesting choice. I know there are many different types of drumming and this seemed interesting. I liked how flexible it is and how it goes so well with anything that you think sounds good with it. It’s interesting how it’s so important in the culture and how much they use it. I like how much history it has and I loved researching the topic.

The most challenging part of the project was prepping the ingredients and actually cooking them because I was so excited to eat the meal. One cool thing I learned about Africa from this project was that some of the food is REALLY spicy and takes quite some time to make even after prepping. Mr. Jokela, you should do this project because it is just fun to learn about the food that they made in west africa and how it tastes. Next time if I ever get the chance to do this project again I might attempt to do an artifact! (WARNING this dish is very very spicy just be warned.)

I decided to do this project because I love cooking more than any of the other options and it just is always fun to cook something new. My family actually really enjoyed it except that it was really spicy. Researching it, it says that this is a very spicy dish and West Africans liked spicy food so that explains why it was so spicy. It had a unique flavor to it and it was a very healthy dish which is what my mom liked. There were lots of vegetables which gave a nice soft flavor and brightened up the look of it. In addition, this was not too difficult to make even though it had a lot of ingredients. The worst part for me was cutting onions because I always hate cutting onions. My eyes tear up so quickly and it is not a fun feeling. I also learned that Nigerians, Ghanians and Senegalese debate who owns the dish. This dish didn’t take too long too cook and is something I will surely make again because the ingredients were already all in my house. I think Mr.Jokela should try this dish because it was very flavorful and had a sweet but bitter taste to it that was pleasant on the tongue.

I decided to do this project because it seemed really fun to use my creativity to create a drawing of a mask I believe would be used in West Africa. The most challenging part of this project was that I had to do my project with markers since the stores nearby me were closed and I couldn't buy paint or water colors and it was really hard to do it with markers besides that I don't really like how it turned out. One cool thing I learned about Africa from this project was that Africa possesses a long tradition of masking and it is believed that masks were integral to their culture long before the first century B.C. The wide variety of uses for masks, which included rituals of myth, creation, and hero worship, as well as fertility rituals for increase, agricultural festivities, funerals etc...
