I am trying to make a warp surreal animation that will be used for my background of the live action play which will create a very unsettling affect towards the audience and build the atmosphere for the music and also set the mood and play for the drama students

I still need to find a way to make it look smooth for the animation and from what my peers said, it should only be focused on one color which I will change it to a group conclusion of red which is something I need to experiment with later.

This video has helped me understand more fully how a schizophrenic person's mind is being portrayed using lighting. The colours are red, which typically represents intensity, and the lighting is coming from the side. There was a rapid change in the music, and then the lights changed ( colour ).

Distorted Face Mirror

I experimented with two different types of materials to see which could best achieve the distorted face I had in mind for the scene where the main character stares at himself in the mirror only to find a face he doesn't recognize. I found that both the use of cloth + glue and plaster strips created the effect I wanted therefore for the actual piece I plan to use both with small pieces of clay molded into objects that represented the main character's identity before going down the bath of alcohol and drugs.

Turning Point Paper Rip

I was trying to figure out the best way to stick the white paper that would be ripped out to reveal an image of a brighter path for the main character in our play. I glued both sides of the white paper and left the middle part unglued. In order to not peel the whole white piece off I had to make little cuts at the bottom of the white paper where it'll be ripped. The way I did this gave me the results I was hoping for therefore I will be using this technique when creating the actual piece. I now need to figure out what picture will be inside.

Widening black hole on back

My initial idea for this was to paint on the main character’s back for this scene but after talking to the actor about it he said that he didn’t feel comfortable exposing his back to the audience therefore I decided to paint the black hole on a shirt instead since it will also be easier to change from one scene to another. Therefore during today’s class, I drew what I wanted the black hole to look like using cloth that is similar to the clothing fabric the actor will be wearing. Doing this allowed me to see what it’ll be like when I draw and paint on the actual shirt. I found that after drawing on the cloth it’s super hard to erase the marks therefore when making the actual shirt I should have a clear reference to what will be drawn to prevent mistakes that need erasing.

A1: I learned to research this project by mainly taking advice from other art students and teachers and I also learned more about German expressionist art. I used the things that I learnt by creating images that are more expressive and in black and white which shows a more serious colour palette tone to the flashbacks that my group will use.

C1: The successful moments of collaboration between the team was when we were able to communicate our thoughts and manage to arrange goals and tasks together to work on as an overall team. This helped to elevate the project as everyone in the group had a clear understanding of what our goals individually were.

The trouble I had was with the artstyle and not properly paying attention to what my group actually wanted, it was not only until the deadline that I properly understood and managed to create a series of drawings that my group approved of.

The overall lesson I’ve learned from this project is that sometimes it’s necessary to change the artstyle that I’m comfortable with in order to benefit the group. Synthesising is very important.

C2: For my self-reflection, I feel that I’ve been able to properly connect with my group over the course of this project but that I’ve been quiet underperforming and also letting the group as I was quiet stubborn in believing that my style was the best and I needed a lot of convincing to change that. I also managed to research German expressionism and feel that I’ve understood a lot from it which helped me to understand the art that I was supposed to make. The decisions made in the group were fairly smooth sailing aside from deciding where the character was from. I also believe that I was able to communicate with the group both in-person and on G-mail fairly regularly and that has helped me to justify whether or not my art style is suitable or not.

After talking with group and some testing for photos of timelapse with the lotus flower Idea, we have decided to change the lotus flower to a Kroma after talking with the group. This is because dinith is researching and has learnt about porr theatre and we will use the kroma throughout the film and we will use it at the end for simbolization and to bring the film to a stop.

Inspiration for how the stitches for the mom's dresses are stitched

The stitches on the dress should be loose however should not move so getting inspiration from the french knot in embroidery, I did half a french knot just not going through the other side with the needle after the knot but continue to the piece of the fabric on the other side. Especially for the moms second and third dress there needs to be knot because some stitches will be cut to represent it being ripped however if the stitch was in one go then it would just all fall apart. By doing half a french knot in the inner part of the sleeve would allow the stitch to look natural while making sure they don't move and more importantly that they are individual stitches so if I cut one it won't affect another.

I first tried making an outline? by applying a layer of masking tape on a surface, drawing the shape, using a sharp tool to cut out the hole, apply masking tape onto the shirt, then paint in it. This didn’t work because I made the hole too small. Therefore I used small pieces of tape to replicate the shape of hole on the shirt instead.

I came across the issue of attaching the mirror to the board as middle isn’t a hard surface, therefore we decided to attach it to the hard boarders but because it was metal we couldn’t drill through it despite a group effort. Luckily I noticed that the cloth was attached to the metal boarders by screw, using the drill I unscrewed the screws a little bit to allow the fishing wire to go through which allowed me to successfully hang the mirror.

Prop #2-3 Clown sculpture

You can tell that there are three clown heads in this image. The meaning of this sculpture was influenced by the circus statues that actors used to play with or wear. Example of a mask. By using the clown's unknown face, melting the sculpture, and merging the three heads, the ideas behind this sculpture aimed to fit into the surrealist.

Working on the sculpture's structure and masking took a long period throughout the making of this sculpture. Following that, I concentrated on panting: Panting were new experiences for me that complemented the landscape and light. I painted the clown using only white, black, and red to make the mask fit into environment, and not stand out.
The improvement: increasing the experiment with melting.

This image shows the clown emerging from a dumbbell-filled ball. The intention behind it was to gain a surealism product while maintaining the importance of minipulaiton.
I've used a mask that pops out of a dumbbell during this process to serve as a metaphor. Showing from the mask's expression and colors that represent darkness helps to illustrate the idea of manipulation.

We also had to deal with the change of where we were performing which meant changing some of the lighting. Originally I changed it to side lights, and strobe flashing when the monster meets. But during one of our rehearsals the teachers suggested we do a blackout and strobe flashing for only a few seconds because it didn't hide the entrance of the rest of the actors.

This was a few days after the check up with some teachers, the feedback being some scenes were not artistic and the plot seemed to be going nowhere
We reconvened with almost everyone on Thursday and discussed what might needs to be changed and started blurting ideas to each other
We learnt from Jasmene and Erika about physical theatre and how we should incorporate more movement oppose to dialogue to make the performance more artistic

In this picture Jasmene was giving us a workshop on physical theatre and the movements used in physical theatre because we decided here that physical theatre would work better than a normal play.
We decided to meet up during 3WC because this was after the checkup we had with the teachers it was a wake up call for us. We decided here that our scenes were not artistic and the plot was going no where because we didn't have a climax nor a pre climax
In this day we also talked about idea's for the climax and we started giving each other idea's
Sadly we did not finish much due to the time constrict.

We all gathered here to evaluate scenes we had in mind and the try to improve them. After a lengthy discussion we decided on some scenes.
After deciding on the scenes we decided on some and then started to practice them. We also decided that since we had a limited amount of people we decided to utilise the art students ( me, elise, ngymeng) and one music students to act in some scenes.
We then took times to become the audience and then give feedback on the performance and then gave feedback.
After this session we finally finished the script we all liked and enjoyed and fully think that it reach the standards of out research and the artistic element.
We also give each other a round of applause.

After the successful session together in all the 3WC we came into the lesson feeling great so we practiced the FINAL FINALISED script together and gave feedback on what we should improve individually.
I also discussed the lights with the lighting guy (Sidet) and the drama and music students. Because the scenes were changing, I needed to modify the lighting in each one. Following the brief conversation, I altered the lights to reflect the movement in the scene and the music in the scene to tie them together with lighting.
After finishing the lights I then went to the back and taught them how to use the lights at the back to create a shadow trying to grasp something. I decided to let them use their phone flashlight.
In this day we also improved some scenes.
I also tested out some lights on each scenes and asked the drama and music students to help give feedback.

For the current closet, I have been using blu tack for the slogans to attach to the screens. However these do need changing because eventually the blu tack will lose its stickiness.

The bed was created many different times with different mediums. We originally planned for the bed to be created using the blocks however that was changed to using a mattress. However because I was unable to find a mattress, I decided to improvise using a table and thick white fabric. This did not work originally and I decided to use the blocks. However due to the lack of blocks available, the bed was very narrow. Finally we have went back to using the table as the bed, this time we use thicker fabric and two different shades of white. It is to make it easier to distinguish between the bed sheets and blanket. Miyuki and I created the pillows using t-shirts and fabric and layering and stuffing them to create a thick but also soft texture.

The closet was changed during the performance day and a wire was drilled into the screens. Mr. Dara added the fabric onto the wire by stapling it and cutting the cloth in half so that it could open in and out like an actual closet door. This helped make the closet more 'realistic' and it allowed the actor to interact with it.
