Students can choose their grade level, subject, and choose from a number of skills for each subject. Once you choose a grade and subject, it takes you to a page that lists different skills to work on and activities to do under each skill. In each skill, they have an example or content and questions or an activity that goes along with the content. For each activity, it counts the time spent on the skill and counts how many correct answers and gives an extra attempt if the answer is wrong or incomplete. If the students are not comfortable with the skill, there are items to choose in order to work on the skill or identification.
Review: I think this took is a great way for students to practice different subjects at different levels. Something positive that the tool offers is the variety of subjects and skills for each subject by grade level. Another positive would be that the students can choose what skill they need to work on and there is an option for extra help if needed. I noticed there were a couple of negative aspects of the tool. One of these being that there is no level for each skill you're working on, to help with either higher or lower leveled students. Summary of Function: Code.org is one of the best online learning communities and e-learning platforms for younger students or adults who want to learn computer science and coding. On top of the free online courses, they also have plenty of resources for teachers and educators looking to instruct on the fundamentals of computer science and coding, as well. On the "learning" page, students can decide whether to go through the lesson guide or jump into a game of coding. For the lesson guide, students choose their grade level, then they choose from courses and activities that match with their interests and reading level. If the students choose to jump into coding, they can choose from different games to code that show a quick tutorial they follow. For teachers, the tool provides ways for the students to interact with technology and learn different functions of how computers work. There are a variety of courses to choose from to give the class, and a list of additional resources to help in the classroom.
Review: I think this site is a good way for students to learn and engage with computer science. It allows them to get comfortable with technology while being creative at the same time. I also think it would be a good tool for teachers to include in their lessons, to improve students' abilities in computer science. Freckle continuously adapts to each student's individual skills, so each student is getting the appropriate challenge, whether they're working at, above, or below grade level. The students first select a character, earn coins, then choose what subject they want to work on. In each subject, there is a list of topics to focus on. For new students, it will give them a pretest to see what skills they have and what skills they need to focus on for each topic in the subject. For each level that is completed, students earn coins that they can spend the coins to customize the character they chose at the beginning.
Review: I like how the tool gives different subjects for the students to focus on. I think it is interesting and engaging for the students to choose an avatar and earn coins when they answer questions/correctly. I think it is a fun way for students to further their skill within a subject while earning something. I also thought it was good that the tool had where it gave the students a pretest so they can start at the level they are at and build on from that. One thing I would say needed to be different or worked on is the pen option for working on a problem. As the company itself says, Seesaw is a platform for student engagement. Students can choose from a different number of subjects they can work on. Using the Seesaw app, students can show what they know using various media, from photos and videos to drawings, text, links, and PDFs. This is all on the Seesaw platform, meaning it can be seen by teachers and even shared with parents and guardians. The student portfolio grows over time, allowing users to carry it through their academic career. This is a great way for other teachers to see how the student has progressed over time – even showing how they worked to get the final result.
Review: I like how the tool allows students to choose from a variety of subjects, so they're not focusing on one thing. I also thought it was interesting how many ways of engagement are shown and that the students are able to learn those different ways. If there is struggle, parents and teachers are able to see what the students need to work on. I think it is a good way for students to study at home and have that extra help that their parents might not be able to give them. Something positive that the tool offers is the different lessons that go with each subject that students can learn and be engaged in.
