People once believed that there was water on the moon but scientific findings reviled that this is not true.

2. Because the sun reflects on the moon, we see a reflection of it's light, though the moon has no light of it's own. The light part of the moon is always pointing towards the sun, so when the moon is orbiting the Earth, we see the part that is shown to us from the angle that we are looking at the moon.

3. The light part of the sun is where it is day, the dark part is where it is night. While England is in day, Australia is in night.

The Moon is a huge, crumbly rock in space. There are mountains on the Moon and flat ares of land called seas. It is called seas because that is what people used to belive. The rocky ball is covered with craters, which are made by meteorits; it will always stay like that because there is no weather on the the Moon. The Moon does not give any light to the Earth at all.

The Moon is lit up by the Sun. It reflets the Sun's light, but can't get all around the Moon. Only half of the Moon is lit up. While the Moon orbits around the Earth, the Moon is facing the Sun. As the Moon starts to orbit, we start to see the lit up side. Here are the diffrent names of the part of the Moon we've seen sometimes: a cresont( only a small part of the lit up bit of the Moon is showing) ; a qutar moon ( a qutar of the Moon is showing) ; a half Moon ( where half of the Moon is showing) and a full moon ( where all of the lit up bit of the Moon is showing. If the Sun wasn't very bright, if it didn't reflet any light onto the Moon, then we wouldn't be able to see the Moon.

As the world orbits around the Sun, the sunlight lights up half of the Earth( that creates day) the other part of the Earth is dark( that creates night.) The Earth rotates every 24 hours, so every day we get day, night, day, night.

One half of the Moon lights up from the Sun, the other side is dark. The Moons light side always faces the Sun. When we can't see any of the light side it's called a new Moon. When we can see a bit of the light side it's called a cresent Moon. Then you gradually more of the light side, which is called a quarter Moon. Finally, when you see the whole light side, it's called a full Moon. The Sun is only on one side of Earth, so half of Earth is light and the other half of Earth is dark. The light side is day, and the dark side is night. The Earth spins around so if we had just had day, next it will be our turn to have night. When we're asleep, Australia is awake because it's our night and their day.As Earth rotates, the people who were facing the Sun,are now facing night.Earth completely turns every twenty-four hours,so day is followed by night, followed by day,for most of the world. While the Earth orbits the Sun, the Moon orbits the Earth. The Moon is a huge ball of rock in space. There are mountains on the Moon. However, there are no seas on the Moon, because on the Moon, there's no water. The Moons surface is covered in craters by meteoroids and will always be there because the Moon has no weather to wear them away. For the moment, the Moon is the only thing that astronauts have ever stood on in space. The Moon does not give any light of it's own, we only see the Moon when the Sun falls on it and is reflected back to what's on Earth.

Half of the moon is lit up by the sun and the other is dark. When moon orbits the Earth the lit up side stays facing the sun. When the moon is directly in front of your part of the Earth, you cant see the lit up side (its facing the sun). Its called a new moon when nothing is visible in the sky. Then as the moon is orbiting you can start to see a little bit. This is called a cresent moon. Next there comes a quarter moon, then a full moon... Then back again!

Its made up of rock and craters. The moon gives off no light of its own and only gets light when the sun shines on it.

The shape of the moon changes from the sky when it is orbiting the earth. The shape changes because different parts of the moon face the sun at different times. There are five different phases of the moon. These phases are called... crescent, quarter, half, full and new.

The cause of night and day is the earth orbiting the sun. When half of the earth is facing the sun the other half is in darkness. For example when England is in daylight Australia is in darkness.

Full Moon, halfway around the Earth, the Moon's face is fully lit by the Sun.The cause of night day is simple, when the sun is shining on the one side of the Earth its daytime, but when the sun is not shining on the other side of the Earth its nighttime. This lasts for 24 hours.

The moon orbits the earth. The shape of the moon appears to change as it rotates. When can't see the moon it is called a 'new moon', a crescent moon is when you can see a little slice, when you can see a bit more it is a quarter moon, and a full moon is where you can see a whole circle. Day and night is caused by the earth rotating around the sun, so when the sun faces the earth it is day. For example when Britain is facing the sun it is daylight and for Australia it would be night. When it is nighttime in Britain it is daylight in Australia. 1 rotation of the earth = 24hrs.
