Although the football played/followed in Europe (and its accompanying atmospheres), is considered the best... America is catching up FAST! In 2004, only 2% of Americans named Soccer as their favourite sport, whereas today, that sum is now 11% (only trailing Basketball and American Football), making it an immensely growing sport in the States (The Justice, 2023). This Interactive Map will show you exactly where here in the US, you can attend an Major League Soccer game (America's top division).

My name is Dewi Benham, and I am a 22 year old lad from England, UK, who is currently playing football and studying, out in the USA.

The subculture I will be focusing on in this project, is elite football players – which includes college student-athletes, professional footballers, and semi-professional footballers. The topic I will be researching for this project, is The Inquiry of Elite Football Players' Lives: Beyond the Field.

My research topic in the form of an inquiry question, is ‘How do elite football players navigate the complex landscape of high-level sports, balancing the demands of competition, rigorous training, and personal life?’

I chose this as a topic for my project for multiple reasons. As a footballer myself (having played at the professional, semi-professional, and college football levels) this topic is deeply personal and relevant to my experiences - I've encountered firsthand the challenges and obstacles that elite footballers face, and I believe it's crucial to bring these to light. While the public often perceives elite sports as glamorous and easy, the reality is far more nuanced! Elite footballers juggle demanding training schedules, gruelling matches, and intense fans/media scrutiny... all while striving to maintain a personal life and mental well-being. I am passionate about showcasing the true, multifaceted nature of a footballer's life and its ins and outs. I want to dispel misconceptions, and highlight the resilience and dedication required to succeed at this level.

I hope my audience will gain a comprehensive understanding of the world of Football, and the realities of being an elite footballer. I would like to debunk common misconceptions about the glamorous lifestyle and showcase all the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices that go into achieving success at these levels. Additionally, I hope to raise awareness about the importance of support and resources for football athletes.
