-These are forms of microaggressions, types of verbal/nonverbal behavior that undermines and devalues people, often only experienced by the victim. 

Ex., saying “Merry Christmas” to everyone (assuming they are all Christians)

-Smaller scale microaggressions can lead to larger scale oppression

-Chapter ends with a statement “privilege/oppression stands between us and the kind of world in which all people have the best chance of thriving”.

Heterosexual privilege is similar to male privilege and is often power play a key role in gender dynamics, and gender inequality
Most heterosexual men attack lesbian and gay men because they feel threatened or uneasy 

White privilege: it's reflected in the discomfort and fears around African Americans, and hypersensitive defensiveness around issues of race.
racism requires hypocrisy towards deeply held cultural values of fairness, decency, and justice.
