Elie's thoughts show that he had lost his faith pretty much completely and is more concerned about how God is not helping the men and instead waiting and watching the pain of them. As it says on pg. 68 "But look at these men whom You have betrayed, allowing them to be tortured, slaughtered, gassed, and burned, what do they do? They pray before You! They praise Your name!"

Elie's actions on page 68-69 show that he cares about his father and wants to be with him at all times. As it said on page 68 "I ran to look for my father... He was leaning against the wall, bent shoulders sagging as if under a heavy load. I went up to him, took his hand and kissed it...Never before had we understood each other so clearly."

I was surprised when the day "yom kippur" was mentioned where this was the day Jews would need to fast. If Jews would fast when they already are being starved because of how little they have been given of bread and soup, then this would be dangerous. If they would fast, they could risk death, and serve health problems by not eating anything for this day. Everyone is already very thin. An idea I had was that Elie was still ashamed and mad at God, which shows he is still losing his faith and hope slowly because of the traumatizing events he's going through and that God is not doing anything about it.

Elie's thoughts show that he is having a rough relationship with God. He is losing his faith toward him and doubting to pray. Elie is mostly angry at him for not doing anything while Elie is just watching men being tortured and he keep asking him self "Where is this God?" On page 66 it states, "What are You, my God? I thought angrily. Why do you go on troubling these poor peoples wounded minds, their ailing bodies?" Pg 67- "Blessed be Gods name? Why, but why would I bless him?"

Elies actions are brave and even though Elie is exhausted and furious, he listens very well and respects what he is told to do. On page 72 it states, "It was my turn. I ran without looking back. Exhausted." Pg 73- "With all my strength I began to race toward Block 36." Pg 68- "But now, I no longer pleaded for anything. I was no longer able to lament. On the contrary, I felt very strong."

It was shocking to see Elie so happy after passing the selection even though it was a happy moment for him because he got to continue living. He just was not very happy in any part of the book for a while so it was a change of mood. It was also very sad to see the people who did not pass the selection to cry and beg to be saved and not to be burned in the crematorium.
