Hello, everybody! I am Konstantina Papaioannou (my friends call me Tina) and I am a teacher of English at a State Primary School in Greece. I was born in Syros, one of the most beautiful islands in the Aegean Sea, where I grew up. I now live and teach in Trikala in central Greece and I miss the sea so much...I love travelling, riding my bike, learning at least one new thing every day and eating chocolate. :)

I am a teacher of English at the All-day State Primary School of Megalo Kefalovrysso in Greece, which is situated close to breathtaking Meteora, a unique UNESCO world heritage site. I lo-lo-love my job and I always try to update my knowledge as to current non-formal teaching practices and educational approaches. I consider myself to be extremely lucky, because I have my own "World of English", a brand new classroom designed for TEFL purposes, where my learners and I have access to ICTs every day (quite rare in Greece). Using ICT enables me to follow more experiential learning paths by applying non-formal education methods in my daily practice and greatly supports me in my effort to provide my learners with highly qualitative educational products.

From the very moment a visitor enters a museum, a process of engagement with an exhibit begins, which results in a personal interpretation of a work of art displayed. Every personal interpretation, when interwoven with those of other visitors, create a jigsaw puzzle of personal perspectives, which proves that the notion of community is omnipresent from the very beginning. Every single person can leave his or her imprint, when in a museum, relishing wholehearted engagement and active participation in the creation of knowledge. This is exactly what we imagine as an ideal teaching situation: a classroom, in which, our learners fully engage in constructing knowledge through interaction with their peers and the outer world.

A Constructivist Approach to Learning in a Museum

Emphasis is cast on museum exhibits and how they have changed from fairly passive and static forms of media, such as text and images, to much more interactive forms of media, allowing for a more active process of knowledge creation than before. The underlying pedagogical principles behind this shift are based on constructivist and constructionist learning theories of the educational philosophers Jean Piaget and Seymour Papert, who argue that children construct knowledge through their interaction with the outside world. In many modern museums, these principles now drive the way exhibits are organised, and they should also drive the way we as teachers shape learning in a museum with our students.

These educational exhibits on wheels often offered, and a few still do, the best of museum experiences in a less austere and more hands-on environment. Today, however, the mobile museum increasingly comes in the form of a laptop, tablet, mobile phone, or virtual reality glasses.

Many museums are digitising their collections, allowing us to examine and interact with these exhibits using our devices.
