This image shows a picture of a Venetian mask. One scholar argued that covering the face in public was a uniquely Venetian response to one of the most rigid class hierarchies in European history. During the Carnival of Venice, the sumptuous laws were suspended, and people could dress as they liked, instead of according to the rules that were set down in law for their profession and social class. Therefore, allowing the poor to interact with the rich. This allows the people to be able to have more connections and better relationships. This also breaks the barrier of financial discrimination back then. An example of the Venetian mask is shown below.

As their population grew, so did their living restrictions, and in 1516 Venetian authorities forced all Jews to live in confinement in the "geti," which is where the modern-day term of "ghetto" is derived. In 17th century Venice, music contributed a lot to Venetian culture. It was during the 17th century when famous composers such as Adrian Willaert developed certain musical composing styles that contributed to the art of music in Venice. Venice became the core of music printing and made way for publishing music, grasping the attention of many people, mostly composers. This is shown through the picture below depicting many people looking at the people playing music.

This picture shows a variety of intricately designed and colorful masks that Venetians used to wear. The masks are typically worn during the Carnival Of Venice and has been used for many other purposes in the past, such as hiding one's identity and social status so that the wearer would be able to act more freely in cases where he or she wanted to interact with other members of the society outside the bounds of identity and everyday convention. The mask has been an extremely significant part of the Venetian culture and till this day, the Carnival Of Venice still takes place. This picture caught my attention as the designs of the masks were alluring and extremely elaborate. At first, I thought the masks were used as a fashion statement but there is a much deeper meaning behind the antiquated masks.
